Despite persistent interest from PSG manager Luis Enrique, no official proposals have been submitted to Barcelona by the French champions, nor has Torres or his representatives signaled an intent to leave. Barcelona consider the 26-year-old an essential squad component and prefer to keep him under his current agreement, which runs through June 2027.
Financial accounting plays a decisive role in the timing of Barcelona’s roster decisions. The club still carries an outstanding €8 million liability owed to Manchester City from Torres’ transfer in January 2022. Operating under La Liga financial fair play rules, which strictly limit squad spending relative to revenues, Barcelona have deferred contract renewal talks until September so that any salary adjustments occur after the summer registration window closes.
Torres is coming off his most effective statistical season in Catalonia, scoring 21 goals in 49 matches last term following a 19-goal campaign the prior year. His total tally for Barcelona stands at 65 goals in 207 appearances. The forward also scored the decisive goal for Spain against Argentina to claim their second World Cup title, earning an extended vacation in Ibiza before his scheduled return to pre-season training on August 10.
Luis Enrique’s tactical interest stems from his experience coaching Torres during Spain’s 2022 World Cup cycle, where the forward’s pressing work rate and positional flexibility across the attack aligned with his high-intensity system. However, Barcelona’s requirement that Torres publicly initiate any move reflects a broader trend among Spanish teams—demonstrated recently by Atlético Madrid during negotiations surrounding Julián Álvarez—aimed at protecting valuation and avoiding fan dissatisfaction when selling key players.
