Kioxia Launches Ruggedized EXCERIA PLUS G2 SSD for Mobile Content Workflows

The new 42-gram drive combines 1,050 MB/s speeds with MIL-STD-810H drop resistance for professional field use.

Kioxia has introduced the EXCERIA PLUS G2 Portable SSD, a significant redesign of its external storage lineup that prioritizes miniaturization and structural resilience for professional mobile workflows. The new drive, weighing 42 grams, represents a shift toward ultra-portable form factors without sacrificing the ruggedization required for field-based data management.

Built with an aluminum chassis, the EXCERIA PLUS G2 measures 72 x 40 x 11.8 mm, making it substantially more compact than its predecessor. The industrial design focuses on heat dissipation and durability, featuring rounded edges and a lack of moving internal parts. Kioxia stated the device meets MIL-STD-810H drop standards, having maintained functionality after 26 consecutive drops from a height of 122 centimeters onto a steel plate.

Operational performance is driven by Kioxia’s proprietary BiCS FLASH 3D memory and a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface. The drive delivers sequential read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. These specifications are positioned to support high-bandwidth tasks, such as the direct transfer of 4K video files and high-resolution photography in the field.

To address data integrity and security for professional users, the EXCERIA PLUS G2 incorporates hardware-level 256-bit AES encryption. The system is compliant with TCG Opal 2.01 standards, allowing users to secure sensitive information via Kioxia’s SSD Utility software.

The drive is available in capacities of 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. It is designed for cross-platform integration, supporting Windows 10 and 11, macOS (Big Sur to Sonoma), and mobile operating systems including iOS 17 and Android 11 through 14. Kioxia also confirmed compatibility with major gaming consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, though some platforms may require reformatting.

Each unit ships with two 300mm cables—USB Type-C to A and Type-C to C—to ensure connectivity with both legacy hardware and modern Type-C ecosystems. The product includes a three-year limited warranty.
