Monero Hits Record $680 High as U.S. Senate Drafts Crypto Market Clarity Act and BitGo Prepares IPO

Privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero touched a record high of $680 before settling near $640, leading a broad surge in altcoins as the U.S. Senate unveiled draft legislation aimed at establishing new ground rules for the digital asset industry.

The market momentum saw significant advances across privacy and utility tokens. Dash jumped 60 percent, while Story Protocol’s IP token gained 30 percent, and the speculative PsyopAnime meme token recorded a 30-fold spike. Major cryptocurrencies maintained upward trajectory, with Bitcoin rising 1.5 percent to $92,000 and Ethereum gaining 1 percent to reach $3,130. Solana moved up 2 percent to $142, while XRP advanced 1 percent to $2.06. Monero’s rally comes despite ongoing international regulatory pressures on privacy coins, which utilize cryptographic mechanisms such as ring signatures to obscure transaction senders and amounts, frequently leading to exchange delistings.

Concurrently, traditional safe-haven assets expanded to unprecedented levels, with gold and silver reaching new historic highs amidst an investigation involving Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Legislative activity intensified on Capitol Hill with the release of the draft Crypto Market Clarity Act, which incorporates specific caps on yield and reward structures for stablecoins. Meanwhile, Senator Elizabeth Warren increased pressure on the SEC regarding the inclusion of digital assets in 401(k) retirement plans, arguing that volatile tokens expose workers to excessive financial risk. Under ERISA federal guidelines, plan administrators face strict legal obligations to manage fiduciary risk cautiously when selecting investment options for retirement savers.

State-level regulatory enforcement also escalated, as regulators in Tennessee ordered prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi, along with exchange operator Crypto.com, to cease offering sports prediction contracts immediately and return funds to users. The enforcement actions underscore a growing jurisdictional clash between state gaming commissions regulating sports gambling and federal derivatives frameworks that govern event markets.

Addressing structural risks within decentralized finance, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin warned that existing decentralized stablecoin frameworks remain vulnerable to governance capture and systemic inflation risks. Against this backdrop, World Liberty Financial introduced a decentralized lending platform centered around its USD1 stablecoin, gathering approximately $20 million in initial deposits.

Signaling expanding corporate interest in crypto infrastructure, institutional custody firm BitGo submitted filings for an initial public offering in the United States, seeking a valuation of roughly $2 billion after reaching more than $100 billion in assets under custody. Qualified crypto custodians play a mandatory role under federal financial regulations by securing reserve assets for institutional clients and spot exchange-traded funds.
