Week 6 NFL DFS: Injuries and Byes Wreck the DraftKings Slate
Massive absences force DFS players to target extreme salaries and high-volume backups across the 10-game Sunday window.

DraftKings’ Week 6 main slate is missing its biggest names. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, the entire Detroit Lions offensive core, and the Minnesota Vikings defense are all on bye. Trevor Lawrence, C.J. Stroud, Parker Washington, Nico Collins, CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Christian Watson, Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans, and George Kittle are locked into early international or prime-time windows. Ten games remain for Sunday’s main slate, but the talent drain forces daily fantasy players to pivot toward extreme price points.
The absence of these starters leaves a vacuum at the top of the pricing structure. Josh Allen ($7,500) stands alone as the most expensive quarterback available. His floor relies entirely on rushing volume. Allen commands a 30% carry share, averaging 8.25 attempts per game with 239 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns through five weeks. He has added 259.8 passing yards per game on 30.3 attempts.
Allen faces a Las Vegas Raiders defense that ranks 29th in rushing yards allowed (140.6 per game). Las Vegas has not held an opponent under 120 rushing yards since Week 1. The secondary has also collapsed recently. Over their last three games, the Raiders surrendered 374 passing yards and four touchdowns to Drake May on 34 attempts, 225 yards and two scores to Patrick Mahomes, and 255 yards with four touchdowns to Tyler Shough.

Kenneth Walker III ($8,500) returns from the Kansas City Chiefs’ bye week as the second-most expensive running back on the board. The Chiefs are eight-point home favorites against the Los Angeles Chargers. Walker averages 17.4 carries and five targets per game. His efficiency metrics lead the league: a 39.4% juke rate (first), 9.8 evaded tackles per game (second), a 125.6 explosive rating, and a 9.2% breakaway run rate. He averages 6.3 yards per carry.

Puka Nacua ($8,100) is the most expensive wide receiver. Since returning in Week 4, he logged a 90.9% snap share, ran routes on 90.7% of plays, and caught 12 targets for 125 yards. He followed that in Week 5 with an 85.4% snap share, 49 routes, 24 targets, 17 receptions, 138 yards, and a touchdown. The Arizona Cardinals have allowed 10 receiving touchdowns this season while surrendering 156.6 receiving yards per game. Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie’s injury status requires monitoring; his absence would increase Michael Wilson’s viability.

Brock Bowers ($7,500) and Trey McBride sit $2,000 above every other tight end on the slate. At his current salary, Bowers would be the third-most expensive wide receiver. The Buffalo Bills allow just 7.2 fantasy points per game to tight ends, having yielded only one touchdown to the position. However, they surrender a league-high 29.9 fantasy points per game to wide receivers, including nine touchdowns. Bowers aligns as a traditional tight end on fewer than 30% of snaps, occupying the slot or operating as a detached receiver between 40% and 58% of the time.

Caleb Williams ($6,200) is expected back for the Chicago Bears, who travel to Atlanta as 3.5-point favorites in a game totaling 48.5 points. The Bears will play without Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo. Their absence removes 27 quarterback pressures and five sacks from the defensive rotation. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. posts a -0.7 EPA per dropback when pressured (fourth-worst) compared to a .58 EPA when kept clean (fifth-best).

Tanner McKee ($4,000) enters the Philadelphia Eagles lineup amid significant roster damage. Saquon Barkley is out, and the offensive line is compromised. The betting market reflects the downgrade: Philadelphia opened as a 1.5-point home favorite but now sits as a three-point underdog to the Carolina Panthers, who return from their own bye week. Carolina pressures quarterbacks at the third-lowest rate in the NFL (11.8%) while allowing 387.2 yards per game (third-most). The Eagles flew back from London earlier this week.

Cam Skattebo ($5,800) anchors the New York Giants backfield as 1.5-point home underdogs against the New Orleans Saints. He ranks ninth among running backs with 20 evaded tackles despite averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Skattebo holds a 63.7% opportunity share on a team running the ball 28.2 times per game (fourth-most). New Orleans allows 148.8 rushing yards per contest. Last week, Aaron Jones gained 113 yards against them. Bijan Robinson rushed for 145 in Week 4, while Ashton Jeanty and Michael Washington combined for 110.
Germie Bernard ($4,000) leads the Pittsburgh Steelers receivers heading into a matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are 2.5-point home underdogs. Tampa Bay surrenders 226.6 passing yards per game and allows opposing receivers to average 31.1 DraftKings points. Bernard led Pittsburgh last week in routes run (32) and targets (9), tying Jaylen Warren with eight receptions while finishing one yard behind him (80 to 86).

Oronde Gadsden II ($3,800) represents the cheapest viable tight end option for the Los Angeles Chargers, who are eight-point road underdogs to Kansas City. The Chargers rank near the bottom of the league in first downs per game (17.6, eighth-fewest), total yards (292.8, seventh-fewest), and scoring (16.8 points, third-fewest). Target distribution is condensing out of necessity. The Chiefs allow 22.6 DraftKings points per game to tight ends, the second-highest mark in the NFL.
