Liverpool Tests Dortmund’s €90m Wall for Felix Nmecha

Anfield chiefs prepare a €90m opening bid to bypass Bournemouth's £100m valuation on Alex Scott.

A €90 million opening bid. That is the figure Liverpool executives believe could pry Felix Nmecha away from Borussia Dortmund before the January transfer window, according to reporting by Mark Brus for the Daily Briefing.

The pursuit of the 26-year-old German midfielder signals a sharp pivot in Liverpool’s recruitment strategy. The club had been positioned as frontrunners for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott after BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella detailed his rejection of two contract extensions at the Vitality Stadium. But Scott carries a £100 million valuation. Anfield chiefs are balking at that price tag for a player who has yet to prove himself over multiple Premier League seasons.

Nmecha represents a different calculation entirely. He extended his Dortmund contract earlier this year. The Bundesliga club maintains publicly that he is untouchable. Yet Liverpool views him as an underrated asset capable of immediate impact under manager Andoni Iraola, and reports indicate the former Manchester City academy product is willing to return to English football.

The tactical logic tracks with Iraola’s demands. Nmecha operates primarily as a central midfielder but holds the positional flexibility to drop into a deep-lying role or push forward as a number 10 (Transfermarkt). Early-season performance data highlights his passing range and physical dominance in duels (Sofascore). Two-time Premier League winner Robert Huth told Empire of the Kop that Nmecha’s profile specifically suits Iraola’s system.

Dortmund has a documented history of extracting maximum fees from Premier League buyers, most notably Jude Bellingham’s move to Real Madrid and Erling Haaland’s departure to Manchester City. A €90 million (£75.9m) offer tests whether that leverage holds for a player outside the global superstar tier. It also tests whether Liverpool will commit nine-figure funds to a Bundesliga alternative rather than paying a domestic premium for Scott.

Liverpool first linked with Nmecha during the summer transfer cycle (TEAMtalk). The club now has until the market reopens in January to finalize its midfield priority.
