Brock Purdy Surges in NFL MVP Odds as Josh Allen Extends Lead After Week 4

Trevor Lawrence and Jeremiyah Love also see major line movements on DraftKings as the NFL futures markets react to the first month of play.

Sportsbooks are rapidly repricing the NFL Most Valuable Player market four weeks into the 2026 season, driven by a sharp contraction around San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Once an afterthought at +1800 before kickoff in September, Purdy has shortened to +425 on DraftKings, vaulting past established contenders to sit directly behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Allen remains the consensus favorite at +260. The reigning betting frontrunner opened the campaign at +600 and has steadily tightened his grip on the market through September, rewarding early bettors who backed him before the regular season began. His current price implies roughly a 27% probability of winning the award, reflecting both individual production and Buffalo’s standing in the AFC East.

Purdy’s ascent represents the most significant line movement in the MVP race this year. Historically, quarterbacks who start outside the top five in preseason odds rarely crack the top two by October unless their team achieves an undefeated or near-perfect record. The Associated Press MVP award, voted on by a national panel of media members at the end of the regular season, heavily favors quarterbacks — no non-quarterback has won since running back Adrian Peterson in 2012. Purdy’s leap from 10th-best odds to second place signals that oddsmakers view San Francisco’s offensive efficiency as sustainable rather than a product of early-season scheduling anomalies.

The market is simultaneously punishing quarterbacks whose teams have underperformed relative to August expectations. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has drifted from +1200 to +2000. Matthew Stafford, listed here as the reigning MVP, has seen his odds lengthen from +1400 to +2800. In NFL futures markets, such rapid drift typically correlates with either team losses or diminished statistical output compared to the prior season, making it mathematically difficult for sportsbooks to justify keeping their prices short when public money continues to flow elsewhere.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has moved in the opposite direction. After opening at +2200 and sitting at +1800 last week, Lawrence has shortened to +1000. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes holds steady at +800 in the MVP market while dominating a separate futures category: Comeback Player of the Year. Mahomes sits at -270 for that award, a heavy price indicating oddsmakers see minimal competition for the honor.

The Offensive Rookie of the Year market has effectively separated from the broader field. Running back Jeremiyah Love trades at +150, creating a massive gap over wide receiver Denzel Boston at +700. When a single player commands implied odds below +200 in a rookie market this early in the schedule, it generally reflects a combination of high volume, immediate positional scarcity, and a lack of comparable production from the rest of the draft class.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams remains a notable liability for sportsbooks despite carrying +5500 odds. High-volume public backing during the preseason left operators exposed on Williams, but his current injury absence has halted further action. Bettors holding tickets on Williams must wait for his return to the active roster before those futures can realistically mature.

DraftKings lists all referenced prices as of late September. The next major adjustment window will follow the conclusion of Week 5, when bye weeks begin altering team schedules and voter narratives start to solidify around division leaders.
