Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Rewrites Billboard’s No. 1 Record
Ella Langley sets the longest-running No. 1 record in Billboard Hot 100 history

The weekly Billboard Hot 100 has served as the U.S. music industry’s standard singles chart since its launch in August 1958. Its rankings combine multi-platform audio and video streaming data, radio airplay audience impressions, and sales data tracked by Luminate.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” now holds the longest reign at the top of the U.S. songs chart in its 67-year history after logging its 23rd week at No. 1. The achievement breaks the previous record of 22 weeks held by Mariah Carey’s holiday staple “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which accumulated its weeks across multiple annual holiday seasons.
The record-setting run began after “Choosin’ Texas” first appeared on the Hot 100 in November 2025, several weeks after its commercial release. The song entered the top 10 in January, climbed to No. 1 in February, and remained unseated for more than five months as it steadily rose through late autumn and winter.
“Choosin’ Texas” was the lead single from Langley’s third studio album, *Dandelion*. Langley co-wrote the track with veteran country songwriters Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert, and Joybeth Taylor. “It feels surreal,” Langley said in an interview with Billboard earlier this year as the song was beginning its run at the top. “I think this has been the biggest moment for me, where I’ve seen where fans can change your career.”
Country music also recently achieved a full sweep of the Hot 100’s top five positions for the first time in the chart’s history. During the chart week ending Aug. 3, every slot in the top five belonged to country music:
1. **”Choosin' Texas”** – Ella Langley (No. 1)
2. **”Been by Now”** – Morgan Wallen (No. 2)
3. **”I Knew It, I Knew You”** – Taylor Swift, from the soundtrack to “Toy Story 5” (No. 3)
4. **”I Can’t Love You Anymore”** – Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen (No. 4)
5. **”Boston”** – Stella Lefty (No. 5)
With 23 weeks at the summit, “Choosin’ Texas” leads an elite roster of long-running No. 1 singles in Hot 100 history. The list includes Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” from 2024 and Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Old Town Road” from 2019, each with 19 weeks at No. 1.
Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which topped the chart for 16 weeks in 1995–1996, shares that mark with Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” from 2023 and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” from 2017.
The song’s chart run caps a breakthrough year for the singer-songwriter. In April, Langley made her performance debut at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, bringing comedian Theo Von onto the festival’s main Mane Stage as a surprise guest to perform her track “You Look Like You Love Me.”
“Choosin’ Texas” is Langley’s fifth overall entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Her chart history also includes “You Look Like You Love Me,” featuring Riley Green, which reached No. 30, along with the top-five hits “Be Her” and her duet with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” which peaked at No. 4.
