Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, expressed profound gratitude for his six years at the club, describing the period as a “wonderful journey” where he enjoyed every single moment. He considered himself “very lucky” to have experienced this tenure.

Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League, will visit Everton on Saturday. This match coincides with the six-year anniversary of Mikel Arteta’s appointment as manager.

The Spanish coach aims to maintain Arsenal’s two-point advantage over Manchester City. His objective is to secure the club’s first league title since 2004.

Arteta has guided the London club to two FA Cup victories and two Community Shields. However, a Premier League title has eluded him, with Arsenal finishing second in each of the last three seasons.

One Man Cannot Change Anything

Arteta reflected on his managerial era at Arsenal during a recent press conference. He stated, “One man cannot change anything, especially when we talk about the size of this club’s problem.” He emphasized the need for “many good people, very committed people around you, who share the same vision, and the same work ethic, and the same passion.”

He added, “I am very lucky to have had them throughout that period.” Arteta highlighted the necessity of “great support, starting from senior management and everyone who makes decisions with you.” He then stressed, “But the most important are the players.”

Arteta continued, “I believe the players have to be convinced by what you say and do.” He concluded, “I feel very lucky that these players give their best every day to achieve what I aspire to.”

I Came to a Club Going Through a Difficult Period

Arteta remarked that the past six years “flew by.” He reiterated, “A lot has happened, but it has been a wonderful journey, enjoying every moment.”

When asked if he anticipated still managing the team six years ago, he replied, “How much would I have bet? I don’t know.” He explained, “I still wanted to coach at the highest level, as I came to a club going through a difficult period in its history.”

He elaborated on his approach: “You have to approach this job day by day.” Arteta affirmed, “I do what I did on day one as I do today.” He concluded, “My job is to win football matches, nothing else.”

Mikel Arteta on David Moyes

Arsenal secured a challenging victory in the previous round, winning against bottom-placed Wolverhampton with two own goals. The team has not recorded an away league win in its last three matches.

David Moyes, the current Everton manager and former West Ham boss, has lost only one of his last five encounters against Arteta’s Arsenal. Arteta played under Moyes at Everton for six years before joining Arsenal in 2011.

The Spanish manager spoke about Moyes, saying, “I think he taught me his love for the game, then the integrity that the game demands no matter what.” He described Moyes as “a special man.” Arteta expressed, “I am very grateful for everything he did for me and for Everton too.” For more insights into Mikel Arteta’s coaching philosophy, you can read about his journey and impact at Arsenal’s official website.
