Morocco’s Akdital Expands Regional Footprint with $90M Acquisition of Tunisia’s Taufiq Hospitals
Healthcare giant Akdital acquires Tunisian hospital group, eyes further expansion in Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Akdital, Morocco’s largest private healthcare group, has intensified its regional expansion, following earlier investments in the Saudi market. The company announced today the signing of a memorandum of understanding to acquire 100% of Tunisia’s Taufiq Hospitals Group (THG) for $90 million.
Established in 2014, Taufiq Hospitals Group operates four private hospitals in Tunisia. The group boasts a total capacity of over 600 beds, including 100 intensive care units. These facilities serve both local and international patients, particularly from neighboring countries and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2024, the Tunisian group reported consolidated revenues exceeding $45 million, with a net profit margin of 13%. THG projects a growth rate surpassing 15% for 2025.
The Moroccan company stated that the completion of the Tunisian transaction is contingent upon obtaining standard regulatory approvals.
Expansion in the Saudi Market
This acquisition marks Akdital’s initial foray into the Tunisian market, following its earlier expansion into Saudi Arabia. Akdital commenced its regional investments by acquiring Abdul Rahman Al-Mashari Hospital in Riyadh and Bashari Hospital in Mecca. The group plans to operate hospitals in Riyadh, Mecca, Jeddah, and Medina with a combined capacity exceeding 1,000 beds, backed by investments totaling approximately 5.3 billion Saudi Riyals (over $1.4 billion).
Akdital Hospitals, the group’s holding subsidiary in Riyadh, secured its first international financing round of $100 million. This funding complements the 1.2 billion Moroccan Dirhams ($130 million) raised through bond sales in Morocco last November. Read more about Akdital’s Saudi subsidiary funding.
Currently, Akdital operates 42 hospitals across Morocco, providing over 4,111 beds. The group aims to expand its network to 62 hospitals by 2027, with ambitions to enter the UAE market.
According to data from the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Akdital’s net profits surged 68% year-on-year to 214 million dirhams in the first half of the current year, with revenues also climbing 68% to 2.1 billion dirhams.
