Floyd Mayweather Meme Coin Crashes 96% on Solana

Promoter Sahil Arora claims the 96% crash on Fomo was part of a calculated strategy, though on-chain data contradicts his profit figures.

A Solana-based meme coin bearing Floyd Mayweather’s name collapsed by 96 percent within three hours Wednesday after briefly reaching a $1 million market capitalization, marking the latest chapter in both the boxer’s turbulent history with digital assets and promoter Sahil Arora’s controversial token schemes.

The token, dubbed Floyd Money Mayweather, launched on Fomo, a Solana trading platform that integrates social media feeds directly into its interface so users can track wallet activity in real time. Mayweather’s verified social media accounts promoted the asset before the posts were abruptly deleted. According to Arora, who claimed responsibility for orchestrating the launch, the deployer wallet sold its holdings early for roughly $5,000 in profit. Arora described the premature sale not as a mistake but as a calculated narrative device designed to drive speculative buying once traders observed the apparent fumble on Fomo’s transparent ledger.

Arora told reporters he extracted seven-figure profits from secondary wallets connected to the project. On-chain analytics firm Bubblemaps disputes that figure. The firm identified the largest connected cluster of wallets profiting approximately $105,000, while the top 100 traders combined netted $306,000. Bubblemaps concluded the math does not support Arora’s claims.

The rapid collapse mirrors a pattern established during the 2024 meme coin frenzy, when Arora utilized Pump.fun—a platform allowing anyone to deploy Solana tokens instantly without coding—to launch celebrity-linked projects. His most notorious effort involved former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, who publicly stated she was scammed. Multiple subsequent tokens tied to Arora have been labeled rug pulls by industry analysts, characterized by liquidity being drained seconds after retail investors buy in.

Unlike Pump.fun, which functioned primarily as a frictionless deployment tool, Fomo introduces a gamified social layer. Traders can see exactly who is accumulating or dumping a token, creating viral feedback loops that promoters exploit to manufacture urgency. Arora stated his intention to replicate his 2024 playbook on Fomo using what he described as better strategies where participants also profit, claiming the Mayweather token avoided the single-transaction dumps that defined his earlier projects. He added that securing celebrity participation remains “really easy” due to his existing relationships.

Mayweather did not respond to requests for comment regarding his involvement or whether he authorized the use of his likeness.

For the undefeated boxer, cryptocurrency promotions carry significant legal baggage. In 2017, Mayweather temporarily rebranded himself as Floyd ‘Crypto’ Mayweather to endorse initial coin offerings, including Centra Tech. The project raised $32 million under false pretenses, claiming its crypto debit card was backed by Visa and Mastercard. The Securities and Exchange Commission charged Mayweather in 2018 with promoting securities without disclosing compensation. He settled, paying a fine and agreeing to a three-year ban on promoting securities.

That ban did not insulate him from further scrutiny. In 2021, Mayweather appeared at a Bitcoin conference wearing EthereumMax merchandise, drawing boos from attendees. The obscure Ethereum-based token later became the center of investor lawsuits naming both Mayweather and Kim Kardashian as defendants, though a judge dismissed the case in late 2022.

Meme coins on Solana continue to attract regulatory attention despite lacking the utility required to be classified as traditional securities. The SEC has previously signaled that celebrity-backed tokens may violate anti-fraud provisions if promoters fail to disclose financial incentives, a standard established during the ICO crackdowns of 2017 and 2018.

Bubblemaps continues to monitor the wallet clusters associated with the Mayweather token launch as Fomo processes new deployments daily.
