Barcelona Agree to Sell Defender Jofre Torrents to Ajax with Buy-Back Clause

Deal retains buy-back clause and 50% future sale stake worth up to €5 million

FC Barcelona and Ajax have agreed on the permanent transfer of 18-year-old left-back Jofre Torrents to the Dutch Eredivisie club.

FC Barcelona confirmed the agreement on its official channels, thanking the La Masia product for his commitment, professionalism and dedication and wishing him well in the next stage of his career.

Initial discussions between the two teams focused on a loan deal for the 2025/26 season. Negotiations shifted to a direct sale after Ajax sought a permanent arrangement for the defender.

The arrangement includes a repurchase option for Barcelona and a 50% share of any future transfer, according to Mundo Deportivo. The operation could be worth up to €5 million and is set to provide Barcelona with a net accounting benefit of up to that figure.

According to reports from Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona inserted a repurchase clause valid across the first three seasons of Torrents’ contract in Amsterdam. Torrents originally arrived at Barcelona’s youth system from Girona in 2018 and progressed through the age-group teams before entering the senior setup.

Head coach Hansi Flick included Torrents in Barcelona’s senior pre-season squad. The defender played as a starter in a friendly match against Birmingham City while Alejandro Balde was recovering from injury.

Torrents made four first-team appearances during the 2025/26 campaign. He spent the remainder of his playing time with Barça Atlètic in the Segunda Federación.
