Princeton, Duke, and Harvard Top LinkedIn’s Ranking of Best U.S. Colleges for Career Outcomes

Princeton University and Duke University have retained the top spots in LinkedIn‘s annual ranking of the 50 best U.S. colleges for career outcomes, leading a field of higher education institutions evaluated on long-term graduate placement and professional network strength.

Harvard University advanced to third place in this year’s list, while Dartmouth College rose to fifth and Yale University returned to the top 10 at ninth place. Overall, 43 of the 50 institutions—or 86 percent—returned from last year’s rankings. Seven institutions debuted on the list, including Middlebury College at No. 37, Claremont McKenna College at No. 40, and Washington University in St. Louis at No. 42.

LinkedIn evaluated schools across five key categories: job placement rates, internship availability and recruiter demand, career progression, alumni network strength, and knowledge breadth. The job placement metrics track recent graduate cohorts from 2020 through 2025 who secured full-time employment or entered graduate degree programs within 12 months of completing their undergraduate studies.

“We’re seeing students think about career success differently than previous generations. They want to build skills, grow their networks and position themselves for a labor market that’s rapidly changing,” said Andrew Seaman, editor-at-large for jobs and career development at LinkedIn. “In today’s slower hiring market, professional relationships can make a meaningful difference. Skills and experience remain critical, but a strong alumni network can help open doors throughout a career, whether that’s through internships, mentorship, professional guidance, or new job opportunities.”

The emphasis on institutional networking comes as early-career job seekers navigate broader economic headwinds and evolving corporate hiring tools. Marist College graduate Samantha Kehler noted that artificial intelligence has transformed the entry-level hiring landscape, serving as a dual force that candidates utilize to navigate applications while simultaneously presenting a barrier set by automated screening systems. As employers increasingly deploy AI-driven software to manage entry-level resume volume, direct alumni connections provide candidates crucial channels to bypass automated application filters.

Additional debut institutions in the top 50 include the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at No. 45, Davidson College at No. 47, Williams College at No. 48, and Bowdoin College at No. 49.
