Mercedes-Benz Unveils 483-HP Electric C-Class with 425-Mile Range and AI-Driven Tech

Mercedes-Benz is readying its all-new C-Class Electric for a North American debut in the first half of 2027, introducing an all-wheel-drive luxury sedan engineered to deliver exceptional driving range and high-end performance. The launch arrives at a tricky moment for the automotive industry, as traditional sedan sales continue to contract and growth in the battery electric vehicle sector encounters persistent headwinds across major markets.

Abandoning the swooping egg-shaped silhouettes that characterized its earlier EQ family, Mercedes-Benz has returned to its traditional nomenclature while significantly raising the technical stakes. The initial model slated for the United States will be the C 400 4Matic, driven by a pair of permanent magnet electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. Together, the motors produce 483 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque—comfortably outpacing the gas-powered AMG C43, which outputs 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Despite weighing down the scales with a heavy floor-mounted battery pack, the dual-motor powertrain propels the sedan from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, reaching an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph.

Energy is stored in a 94-kilowatt-hour battery pack that supports ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 330 kilowatts. Under optimal conditions, the system can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent capacity in 22 minutes. On European test cycles, the vehicle achieved a 474-mile WLTP rating, though official tests from the United States Environmental Protection Agency are expected to yield a realistic driving range closer to 425 miles per charge. By comparison, the larger Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan tops out at 308 miles of range on a single charge.

Initial road tests through Helsinki and the surrounding Finnish countryside demonstrated that the car excels at quiet highway cruising. An optional adaptive suspension system absorbs pavement irregularities smoothly in its softest setting, while a dedicated Sport mode tightens the chassis and engages rear-wheel steering to enhance maneuverability on technical tracks and winding roads.

Visually, the vehicle features an illuminated front grille lined with up to 1,050 individual LED light elements. Inside, the cabin offers various trim choices, including cruelty-free vegan leather upholstery options. However, the cockpit is dominated by an immense 39.1-inch Hyperscreen dashboard display spanning the front width of the vehicle.

Mounted almost vertically against the firewall, the seamless LED-backlit Hyperscreen puts touch controls within easy reach, though its proximity to front occupants paired with an elevated center console creates an unexpectedly tight cabin atmosphere despite generous head and legroom metrics. The infotainment ecosystem incorporates dedicated passenger streaming, video games, a 19-speaker Burmester audio setup with Dolby Atmos, and native integration for Microsoft Teams.

Software functionality is driven by a tri-engine AI assistant combining large language models from ChatGPT, Google, and Microsoft. The software routes voice queries based on topic context, though early tests revealed occasional processing delays and unsolicited voice interruptions during passenger conversations. For driver assistance, standard hardware includes surround radar, optical cameras, and acoustic sensors, with full hands-free navigation support locked behind the paid MB.Drive Assist Pro upgrade package.
