Apple Holds $227 Billion Market Cap Lead Over Nvidia Ahead of Quarterly Earnings

Polymarket odds give Apple a 79% chance to finish July as the world's largest company ahead of Q3 earnings.

Decentralized prediction platform Polymarket has seen probability contracts shift dramatically, assigning Apple a 79% chance of concluding July as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company. The probability surged by more than 50 percentage points within a single day, while semiconductor giant Nvidia saw its odds drop to roughly 22% across a contract that has logged approximately $4.7 million in trading volume.

At the close of trading on Tuesday, Apple held a market capitalization of approximately $4.995 trillion compared to Nvidia’s $4.768 trillion. The resulting $227 billion valuation cushion gives Apple the lead with just three trading sessions remaining before the contract settles at the close of markets on July 31.

A major volatility event remains on the immediate horizon. Apple is scheduled to report its fiscal third-quarter financial results on Thursday, July 30, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, giving investors and traders one final earnings report to price in before the monthly settlement.

The shift in market sentiment reflects broader investor scrutiny regarding tech sector capital expenditures. According to projections cited by Reuters, five major cloud infrastructure operators are on track to spend more on capital expenditure—primarily long-term assets such as specialized hardware, servers, and data centers—than they will generate in total free cash flow by 2027.

Nvidia remains directly tied to this infrastructure surge, having reported $62.3 billion in data-center revenue during its most recent quarterly report, representing a 75% year-over-year increase. However, market anxiety has heightened following reports that Nvidia could offer a $250 billion financial backstop for an OpenAI data-center development, reviving investor concerns over circular customer financing within the Artificial Intelligence hardware ecosystem.

In contrast, Apple’s approach to artificial intelligence has focused on moderate capital allocation. In early June, the company introduced an overhauled version of Siri integrated with conversational features and personal-context awareness, relying on lightweight on-device models alongside third-party partnerships rather than constructing proprietary mega-scale server farms.
