Personal terms have already been finalized with the 28-year-old international, shifting the focus to bridging the valuation gap between the two clubs.
The North London side is readying an opening offer in the region of £70 million. While Newcastle are expected to resist that initial proposal, market figures indicate an £80 million package could ultimately seal the agreement. Unlike striker Alexander Isak, who pushed through a high-profile transfer to Liverpool last summer, Guimaraes has maintained a professional approach on Tyneside, offering both parties a smoother environment for structured negotiations.
Arteta views the former Lyon midfielder as an ideal fit for his tactical setup. Despite suffering a hamstring injury during the second half of last season, Guimaraes produced 15 goal contributions in Premier League play while remaining central to Newcastle’s physical presence, averaging six duel victories, two tackles, and nearly five recoveries per match. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe previously characterized the Brazilian as “very special” within his setup.
Arsenal’s acceleration comes amid heightened activity across top-tier English football. The Gunners recently missed out on Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers after Chelsea executed a swift £117 million transaction—a figure Arsenal chose not to match. Seeking to prevent a similar setback in midfield, Arsenal leadership wants to conclude discussions before rival interest materializes, particularly should Manchester City enter the market if Rodri attracts formal approaches from Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano indicated that direct club-to-club meetings scheduled for next week will be decisive as Arsenal aim to secure Guimaraes, who turns 29 in November, as the marquee addition to their midfield core.
