Meta Targets Commercial Merchants with New AI-Powered Seller App for Facebook Marketplace

Meta has officially expanded its commerce footprint with the launch of Seller, a standalone application designed to convert standard Facebook Marketplace accounts into fully equipped storefronts. Aimed at high-volume merchants and growing micro-businesses, the platform integrates artificial intelligence to automate inventory management, messaging, and product cataloging.

The application is currently available to users aged 18 and older in the United States on both iOS and Android platforms, with a companion web application currently undergoing limited testing. Existing listings, chat histories, and vendor reputations automatically sync across both systems, ensuring that items posted through the new platform remain visible to standard Facebook Marketplace shoppers.

At the core of the tool is a Meta AI engine that analyzes uploaded product images to automatically generate item titles, detailed descriptions, category tags, and recommended pricing. The system also supports bulk listing capabilities, allowing high-volume vendors to upload multiple inventory items simultaneously—a feature designed to bring the platform in line with dedicated retail channels like eBay and Etsy, where automated workflows are crucial for merchant retention in the competitive global e-commerce market.

To streamline customer service, the interface consolidates buyer inquiries into a unified inbox that threads messages according to specific items. A central dashboard presents real-time performance analytics, tracking listing metrics such as customer views, clicks, active message threads, and completed transactions, alongside urgent action items like pending shipments and price adjustments.

The rollout coincides with a milestone year for Facebook Marketplace, which debuted in 2016 and now marks a decade in operation. What began as an informal local exchange network has evolved into a global trading ecosystem attracting more than one billion monthly active users and generating 430 million listings every month.

In tandem with the commerce features, Meta also announced an identity verification initiative within its Meta Verified service. The system utilizes AI-powered facial recognition to confirm vendor identity, targeting platform safety and fraudulent merchant accounts.
