Crypto Markets Surge as Institutional ETF Inflows Hit $884 Million Ahead of Key US Senate Vote

A sudden surge in institutional investment capital has propelled digital asset markets into strong positive territory, with spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recording $884 million in combined net daily inflows—the largest single-day institutional allocation in three months. The capital influx pushed Bitcoin back to $95,000, while Ether gained 6 percent to trade at $3,313.

Bitcoin’s dominant share of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization adjusted slightly downward to 59.2 percent as capital spread across alternative tokens. Binance Coin (BNB) rose 3 percent to $936, while Solana (SOL) traded up 2 percent at $145. Outperformers among mid-cap tokens included Story Protocol (IP), Internet Computer (ICP), Pump.fun (PUMP), Pepe (PEPE), and Ethena (ENA). Monero also sustained its upward trajectory, achieving a new all-time high amid persistent demand for privacy-focused protocols.

The rally was overwhelmingly anchored by traditional investment vehicles, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs capturing $754 million and Ethereum spot products bringing in $130 million. Spot crypto ETFs, which were approved by federal regulators earlier in the year, offer direct exposure to asset spot prices on regulated stock exchanges, serving as a vital gauge of institutional sentiment.

The market tailwinds come as legislative momentum builds in Washington. A U.S. Senate committee is scheduled to vote on a major cryptocurrency regulatory framework on January 27, though lawmakers remain locked in negotiations regarding reserve backing, consumer protections, and issuer yield restrictions for stablecoins. Financial coverage from Reuters has noted that regulatory clarity remains a critical pillar for sustained institutional participation. Overseas, sovereign policy shifts continue to gain speed: Russian authorities are expanding permissions for digital currencies in cross-border settlements, while Pakistan plans to integrate World Liberty Financial‘s USD1 stablecoin into national digital payment channels.

Corporate activity across the Web3 ecosystem mirrored the market momentum. Polygon Labs announced a $250 million acquisition deal to purchase crypto payment infrastructure firm Coinme alongside wallet developer Sequence, consolidating user onboarding tools under a unified ecosystem. In public market preparation, European digital asset broker BitPanda announced plans for an initial public offering on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange during the first half of 2026. Data platform CoinGecko is exploring secondary equity sales at a target valuation of $500 million, while Binance founder Changpeng Zhao participated in an investment round for perpetual trading venue Genius Terminal.

In decentralized finance, Ethena Labs eliminated transaction gas fees for its USDe stablecoin, seeking to lower barrier costs for users participating in decentralized finance protocols. Within network operations, Bitdeer achieved a significant milestone by overtaking Marathon Digital (MARA) in managed hash rate capacity—a key metric representing total computational power dedicated to processing transactions and securing the Bitcoin network.

Despite gains in asset valuations, security risks remain an acute challenge for market participants. Authorities in France continue to investigate targeted physical extortion schemes, commonly known as “wrench attacks,” in which assailants physically coerce holders into disclosing private keys. Cybersecurity advisers recommend high-net-worth investors deploy multi-signature vault architecture and split private keys geographically to limit physical exposure risks.
