Brewers Sweep Dodgers in NLCS to Reach First World Series Since 1982

A seven-homer outburst and contributions beyond Jackson Chourio carried Milwaukee past the two-time defending champions in four games.

Milwaukee’s four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series has delivered the Brewers their first World Series appearance since 1982, dismantling a two-time defending champion roster built on unprecedented financial resources.

The victory ends a 44-year Fall Classic drought for a franchise operating out of Major League Baseball’s smallest media market. Milwaukee enters the championship round with one of the league’s lowest payrolls, having dispatched a Dodgers team that entered October as heavy favorites across every major sportsbook. The last time the Brewers played for a title, they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games during the 1982 World Series under manager Harvey Kuenn.

Retired Alabama football coach Nick Saban, who won six national championships at the University of Alabama by building similarly adaptable rosters, pointed to Milwaukee’s regular-season dominance rather than playoff luck when assessing the outcome. Speaking Friday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Saban noted that the Brewers won more games than any other MLB team this year and praised their defensive positioning, team speed, and ability to put the ball in play consistently. Saban admitted he did not believe anyone could beat Los Angeles, let alone eliminate them without dropping a game.

Milwaukee’s path through the NLCS defied its established tactical identity. Manager Pat Murphy’s club spent the 2026 regular season leaning heavily on bunting, aggressive baserunning, and bullpen management — strategies typically associated with rosters lacking middle-of-the-order power. Against the Dodgers, however, the Brewers hit seven home runs over four games, exploiting Los Angeles pitching in ways their seasonal statistical profile never suggested.

That power surge arrived despite offensive struggles from two of the organization’s most critical young players. Outfielder Jackson Chourio, who signed an eight-year, $82 million extension in March 2024 to become one of the youngest players in MLB history to secure such a deal before reaching the majors, failed to find his typical rhythm against Dodgers pitching. Pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski also labored through the series. Neither slump altered the outcome, exposing the depth of a roster constructed around situational execution rather than individual star production.

The Brewers’ bullpen-heavy approach reflects a broader organizational philosophy developed under President of Baseball Operations Matt Arnold. Rather than committing nine-figure contracts to starting pitchers, Milwaukee has systematically acquired versatile relievers capable of handling high-leverage innings in short bursts, allowing Murphy to dictate matchups earlier in games than traditional baseball strategy permits.

Game 1 of the World Series will be played at American Family Field in Milwaukee following a week-long layoff. The stadium, which opened in 2001 as Miller Park and features a retractable roof designed specifically for Wisconsin’s unpredictable late-autumn weather, will host its first World Series game since the venue replaced the aging County Stadium.

The scheduling ripple effects have already reached across town. The NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks announced adjustments to their home opener schedule to accommodate the sudden influx of downtown events and security logistics surrounding the Brewers’ championship run.

Milwaukee awaits the winner of the American League Championship Series to determine its opponent for Game 1.
