Wingstop Launches Sour Patch Kids Candy-Coated Wings for Halloween

Candy-coated limited-time flavor tests the chain's flavor-innovation strategy ahead of Halloween

Wingstop is betting that sour candy belongs on chicken wings. The Dallas-based chain announced Tuesday a limited-time partnership with Mondelēz International’s Sour Patch Kids brand, rolling out a Redberry glaze topped with finely chopped candy pieces it calls Sour Patch Kids Bitz.

The flavor, dubbed Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch, hits participating U.S. restaurants Oct. 27. Members of the chain’s loyalty program, Club Wingstop, gain early access starting Oct. 23. The offer disappears from menus after Nov. 5.

“Candy on wings? We know exactly what you’re thinking,” said Michael Skipworth, Wingstop’s president and CEO. “But no, seriously, it has no business being this good.”

The collaboration marks the first activation of Sour Patch Kids’ “13 Days of Mischief” Halloween campaign. Lauryn McDonough, senior director of candy at Mondelēz, described the wing flavor as “exactly the kind of unexpected mischief our fans love.”

Wingstop has built its recent growth on a steady cadence of limited-time flavors — from Lemon Pepper to Garlic Parmesan — designed to drive app orders and social buzz. The chain now operates more than 3,000 locations worldwide and recorded over $5 billion in systemwide sales during fiscal 2025.

Social media reaction split sharply after the announcement. On X, one user called it a “bold move” while another wrote, “Sour patch kids on chicken oh that’s nasty.” A third summed up the prevailing skepticism: “I can’t decide if this is genius or completely wrong.”

The chain’s digital-first ordering model means the flavor will be available through the Wingstop app, website, and in-restaurant at participating locations while supplies last. No pricing details were disclosed.

Wingstop’s next earnings report, scheduled for early November, will offer the first glimpse of whether the candy-coated gamble translated into comparable sales growth.
