Toyota Recalls 106,000 Land Cruisers Over Fuel-Tube Fire Risk

Hybrid model's fuel tube may separate, creating a fire hazard

Toyota is recalling 106,000 model-year 2024 through 2027 Land Cruiser SUVs in the United States because a fuel tube located near the gas tank can separate, the company said Wednesday. Fuel may leak and, with an ignition source nearby, the vehicles can catch fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received 13 reports of fuel leakage and one report of a fire involving the Land Cruiser.

The defective part is a resin fuel tube. Dealers will install a supplemental clamp and replace the tube if necessary, at no charge. Toyota plans to notify owners beginning later this month, and owners may check whether their vehicle is included using their VIN on the NHTSA site or Toyota’s owner portal.

The recall targets the current Land Cruiser, which returned for 2024 with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired to an electric motor. The hybrid powertrain produces 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque and is rated at 23 mpg combined, a steep improvement over the outgoing V8’s 14 mpg combined. The switch to a smaller, more electronics-heavy engine is the likely backdrop for the newer defect.

Fuel issues are not unprecedented on the badge. Toyota recalled more than 38,000 Land Cruisers built around 1991 to repair leaking fuel tanks, according to agency records.

The latest fuel-tube recall is the second recent campaign specific enough to touch this generation. Toyota also recalled certain 2024 and 2025 Land Cruisers as part of a broader campaign covering instruments and displays that could go blank, and addressed backup-camera failures in an even wider action spanning multiple models.

The 2026 Land Cruiser 1958 edition started at $57,200, placing it in a price bracket where buyers expect near-perfect dependability from a nameplate built on decades of off-road reputation.

Toyota’s free repair should clear the immediate hazard. The harder question is whether the automaker can keep the trust that keeps the Land Cruiser name valuable.
