Texas High School Football Week 8 Scores: Houston, Statewide
From a 166-point West Texas thriller to critical Houston-area district wins, see how Friday's results reshape the UIL playoff picture.

A combined 166 points erupted in a single West Texas shootout Friday night as Abilene Christian outlasted Midland Trinity 86-80, headlining a Week 8 slate of Texas high school football defined by extreme offensive production and several programs cementing their postseason positioning.
The Abilene Christian-Midland Trinity contest stood as the highest-scoring game across the state. Games exceeding 150 combined points remain statistically rare even in Texas six-man football, where wider fields and fewer defenders naturally inflate scoring. Hermleigh also pushed deep into that territory with a 76-29 victory over Roby, while Joshua Johnson County posted an 80-6 rout against Savoy.
In the Houston area, Dickinson continued its heavy offensive output with a 55-42 win over Barbers Hill. Pasadena First Baptist topped Conroe Covenant 64-48, while Memorial shut down Alief Taylor 42-18. Katy Taylor handled Morton Ranch 38-19, Madison beat Westbury 28-20, Magnolia West edged Klein Collins 18-15, Waller defeated Richmond Foster 35-9, Bay City took down El Campo 29-19, and Port Neches-Groves blanked Dayton 34-0.
Week 8 carries distinct structural weight within the University Interscholastic League calendar. For most classifications, only the final four or five weeks of district play determine playoff seeding and qualification. Programs sitting on the bubble entering Friday faced elimination pressure typically reserved for November. Several traditional powerhouses responded accordingly. Duncanville secured a 28-15 victory over Crowley, maintaining its grip on the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex hierarchy. Argyle dismantled Lewisville The Colony 56-14, Lake Travis blanked Round Rock Stony Point 47-0, and Brock crushed Bridgeport 77-0.
Shutouts proved pervasive statewide, reflecting the talent disparity inherent in Texas district scheduling when top-seeded programs face rebuilding rosters. Odessa Permian blanked crosstown rival Odessa 56-0. Lancaster posted a 75-0 win over Cleburne, Euless Trinity routed Irving Nimitz 49-3, and Wolfforth Frenship dominated Frenship Memorial 69-0. Iredell, Collinsville, Kennedale, and Franklin all recorded shutouts of at least 56 points.
Not every matchup ended in a blowout. Leander extracted a 3-0 defensive struggle against Hutto, a rarity in modern Texas football where spread offenses typically generate higher floors. Canyon survived a one-point test against West Plains 19-18, Kingsville King edged Ingleside 37-34, and Sinton ground out a 16-7 decision over Goliad.
Two scheduled games did not reach the field. Roscoe received a forfeit victory over Big Spring, and Westlake Academy was awarded a forfeit win against Arlington St. Paul. Under UIL rules, forfeits are recorded as 1-0 victories in the official standings but do not contribute to individual player statistics or tiebreaker point differentials used for playoff seeding.
Cross-border competition also appeared on the ledger, with Beaumont Legacy Christian falling 41-14 to Baylor School from Tennessee. Private and independent programs frequently schedule out-of-state opponents during non-district windows or when geographic proximity makes regional travel practical.
With Week 8 complete, district coordinators will finalize updated standings early next week as teams enter the critical three-week stretch that determines the 11-man and six-man playoff brackets across all six UIL classifications.
