Jeremiah Pratt Rushes for 285 Yards as Western Beaver Stays Undefeated in MAC
Golden Beavers outscore Freedom Area 20-7 in the second half during heavy rain to maintain a perfect conference record.

Western Beaver quarterback Jeremiah Pratt turned a rain-soaked field in Industry, Pennsylvania, into a personal showcase Friday night, rushing for 285 yards on 22 carries to push the Golden Beavers past Freedom Area 26-10.
The victory preserved Western Beaver’s perfect 4-0 record in the Midwestern Athletic Conference during Week 8 of the Pennsylvania high school football season. The Golden Beavers improved to 4-4 overall while securing sole possession of second place in the Class 2A MAC standings, trailing only Neshannock.
Pratt accounted for two touchdowns in conditions that forced both teams to abandon the passing game almost entirely. Heavy rainfall across the Beaver Valley region made ball security the defining variable of the contest, turning the matchup into a physical ground battle rather than a schematic chess match.
Freedom Area struck first with a 32-yard field goal by Nick Fessler, but Pratt answered before the end of the opening half with a 40-yard touchdown run. The score gave Western Beaver a narrow 6-3 lead at halftime, setting the stage for a dominant third and fourth quarter.
The Golden Beavers generated 20 of their 26 points after the break. Sophomore running back Landon Sallie scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter. Pratt followed with a 62-yard touchdown carry in the fourth, and senior receiver Nathan Vula added a 52-yard rushing score, demonstrating the depth of Western Beaver’s ground attack beyond its starting quarterback.
Head coach Ron Busby emphasized that winning in severe weather requires minimizing turnovers and executing fundamental assignments. He noted that games played under such conditions typically devolve into wars of attrition where the team making fewer mistakes controls the outcome.
Defensively, Western Beaver executed a specific game plan designed to contain Freedom Area senior Kaden Bailey, who entered the week ranked among the top five rushers in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League. The Golden Beavers held Bailey to 103 yards on 24 attempts without a touchdown, falling just short of their internal goal of keeping him under 100 yards. Busby credited second-half defensive front adjustments for limiting Bailey’s ability to reach the second level consistently. Mason O’Donnell scored Freedom Area’s lone touchdown on a late fourth-quarter carry with less than two minutes remaining.
The WPIAL Class 2A playoff picture relies heavily on conference performance and overall strength of schedule. Maintaining an undefeated MAC record positions Western Beaver favorably for postseason seeding, though the program faces a steep challenge over the final two weeks of the regular season.
The Golden Beavers will play their final two regular-season games on the road. They travel next Friday to face Beaver Falls, which improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the MAC following a 20-7 victory over Riverside on Friday night. Western Beaver then closes the regular season on October 30 against conference leader Neshannock, which currently holds a 6-2 overall record and a matching 4-0 mark in MAC play.
