Richarlison Can Face Liverpool Despite Tottenham Squad Omission

Why Richarlison Can Still Face Liverpool

Richarlison remains legally eligible to play in the Carabao Cup despite being excluded from Tottenham Hotspur’s official 25-man Premier League roster. Under Football Association and English Football League (EFL) tournament regulations, domestic cup participation is determined by overall player contract registration rather than the top-flight 25-man squad lists required by the Premier League.

Tottenham’s decision followed multiple failed attempts to find the Brazilian international a new club before the summer transfer window closed. A proposed deadline-day return to former club Everton collapsed before terms could be finalized, while later inquiries involving Saudi Pro League clubs and Brazilian side Vasco da Gama also produced no transfer agreement.

Richarlison therefore remains under contract at Tottenham but cannot appear in Premier League fixtures until the registration window reopens in January. His EFL eligibility applies ahead of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Over 18 career appearances against Liverpool, Richarlison has scored six goals. The total includes goals in both the home and away Premier League fixtures against the Merseyside club during the previous campaign.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi has given no public indication that Richarlison will be recalled to Tottenham’s matchday squad at Anfield. Top-flight clubs typically align their domestic cup selections with their primary squad structure, and the forward has remained outside the main matchday setup since his exclusion from the league roster.

Tottenham recently relied on Dominic Solanke in central attack during the club’s 0-0 draw against Everton. Solanke recorded the fewest touches of any player on the pitch before being substituted in the second half.

The active attacking rotation currently includes Omar Marmoush as a forward option, with support from Savio and Mohammed Kudus. Mathys Tel is also pushing to re-enter squad contention as Tottenham prepares for its cup tie.
