Porto Walking Tour Tops Tripadvisor’s 2026 Best Things to Do
Small-group walking tours and logistically complex day trips dominate the 2026 Travelers' Choice rankings.

A 2.5-hour walking tour through Porto, Portugal, has claimed the No. 1 spot on Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Things to Do list, marking the second time in three years the experience has topped the global ranking.
The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center beat out thousands of competing excursions worldwide by relying on small-group formats, local guides sharing personal histories, and practical recommendations for food and architecture rather than scripted sightseeing. The tour previously won the platform’s top global award in 2024, signaling that Portugal’s tourism appeal extends well beyond its heavily trafficked wine cellars and coastal resorts. International arrivals to Portugal surpassed 30 million in recent years, transforming Porto from a secondary stop into a primary European destination.
Tripadvisor compiles the annual Best of the Best list by analyzing the volume and quality of traveler reviews submitted over a 12-month period. Only a fraction of the millions of bookable experiences on the platform qualify. Unlike destination rankings that measure hotel occupancy or flight routes, this specific index isolates what travelers choose to do after they arrive, reflecting a broader industry shift toward guided, hyper-local immersion over passive sightseeing.
That demand for structured convenience is visible across the entire 2026 top 10. Eight of the highest-rated experiences are single-day or multi-day guided tours designed to eliminate logistical friction.
In Japan, a one-day bus tour linking the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park with the UNESCO-protected Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island took the No. 2 position. Reviewers specifically cited the pacing of the itinerary, which balances the heavy historical weight of the atomic bombing sites with the natural scenery of the island’s floating torii gate. Managing visitor flow at both locations has become increasingly complex for Japanese authorities as inbound tourism rebounds to record levels.
Spain’s most popular entry, ranked No. 3, bundles Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and the Gothic Quarter into a single day with included transport. Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished basilica now operates under strict timed-entry ticketing to combat overtourism, making self-guided visits difficult without advance planning. Bundled tours bypass much of that friction, explaining their dominance in user ratings.
Water-based experiences also secured major placements. A 90-minute all-inclusive canal cruise in Amsterdam operated by Captain Jack landed at No. 4, offering a smaller-vessel alternative to the large glass-topped tourist boats that frequently congest the city’s 17th-century waterways. In Vietnam, the Amanda Cruise through Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay ranked No. 10. Lan Ha Bay sits just south of the more famous Ha Long Bay within the Cat Ba Archipelago UNESCO World Heritage site, offering similar limestone karst scenery but with significantly fewer vessels and less commercial development.
European history and cultural nostalgia drove several other top-10 inclusions. Liverpool’s Beatles Magical Mystery Tour took the No. 5 spot, capitalizing on sustained global interest in the band’s legacy ahead of various upcoming musical anniversaries. In Germany, a two-hour walking tour covering Third Reich and Cold War landmarks in Berlin ranked No. 6. Berlin’s historical geography is dense, and short, highly focused tours consistently outperform full-day excursions in user satisfaction because they provide essential context without exhausting visitors navigating the city’s sprawling layout.
The list also rewarded high-density itineraries. A full-day excursion from Krakow to Poland’s Tatra Mountains region, ranked No. 9, packs an 11-to-12-hour schedule with a cable car ride in Zakopane, thermal bathing at Chocholow, and regional food and vodka tastings. Zakopane serves as the winter capital of Poland and the gateway to Tatra National Park, drawing domestic and international visitors year-round.
The only multi-day trek to make the top 10 was the classic four-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, landing at No. 8. Unlike the commercially flexible tours dominating the rest of the list, the Inca Trail operates under rigid government restrictions. Peruvian authorities cap daily hikers and support staff at 500 people, and permits routinely sell out six months in advance. The physical demands of altitude and consecutive days of camping separate it sharply from the accessible urban walks and cruises that dominate the upper ranks.
Tripadvisor released the 2026 Things to Do rankings alongside its separate 2026 top global destinations list, which measures overall location popularity rather than specific activities.
