iPhone Duo Pre-Orders Open Oct. 16: How to Secure Launch Delivery

Compare Apple's direct financing, AT&T trade-in credits, and the Get Ready tool before the October 16 launch window opens.

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, opens for pre-order on Friday, October 16, with retail availability following on October 23. Buyers attempting to purchase the device at launch face a narrow supply window and a starting price of $1,999, making advance preparation essential for securing day-one delivery.

Industry analysts tracking component yields for flexible OLED panels have indicated that initial production volumes for book-style foldables remain constrained compared to standard slab smartphones. Apple’s entry into a market long dominated by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series means demand will likely outpace early manufacturing output. Customers who wait until Friday morning to manually configure their orders risk having their shipments pushed back by several weeks.

To bypass the checkout bottleneck, Apple activated its Get Ready tool on October 12. The system allows customers to finalize every transaction variable before the pre-order window officially opens. Users accessing the Apple Store app or website can lock in their preferred hardware configuration — selecting between Star White and Night Sky colorways, and storage tiers ranging from 256GB up to 2TB, which tops out at $3,199. The tool also captures trade-in details, accessory additions, AppleCare+ enrollment, shipping addresses, and payment credentials. Once configured, the system processes the order automatically when pre-orders go live.

Purchasing directly through Apple offers the most flexibility for unlocked devices. The company is currently advertising up to $885 in credit for eligible iPhone trade-ins. For buyers financing the hardware independently, Apple provides a 24-month installment plan that breaks the base 256GB model down to $83.29 per month. Alternatively, the revamped Apple Upgrade Program lowers that monthly cost to $57.99. Participants in the upgrade program must return the device after two years, pay off the remaining balance to retain ownership, or trade it in toward the next generation of hardware.

Telecommunications providers are aggressively subsidizing the $2,000 entry point to lock subscribers into long-term postpaid contracts. AT&T has structured a promotion offering up to $1,200 in trade-in credits for eligible devices, paired with an additional $200 per line for orders processed through its online portal. These carrier incentives typically require a 36-month installment agreement tied to specific unlimited data tiers, meaning the discount is applied as monthly bill credits rather than an upfront price reduction. Customers who cancel their service early forfeit the remaining promotional balance.

Third-party retailers are aligning their inventory with carrier promotions. Best Buy confirmed that iPhone Duo pricing will start at $55.96 per month on an installment plan routed through AT&T, slightly undercutting the direct carrier monthly rate by restructuring the activation fees. Because foldable displays require specialized protective cases that accommodate the hinge mechanism, third-party retailers often provide the advantage of bundling compatible accessories during the initial point of sale.

Carrier-specific pre-order portals generally open simultaneously with Apple’s direct channels on October 16, though exact times vary by network. Verizon and T-Mobile are expected to publish their finalized trade-in matrices and promotional terms within 48 hours of the pre-order launch.
