Instagram Now Lets You Move Tagged Posts to Your Main Profile Grid
Meta Expands Instagram Profile Tools with Tagged Grid, First Draft, and Audio Swap

Meta Platforms Inc. has expanded Instagram’s profile customization tools with a feature that lets users display posts they are tagged in directly on their main profile grids. The functionality provides an alternative display method for multi-user content, eliminating the need for individuals to manually save and republish duplicate images from shared events, group travel, or gatherings.
Previously, media posted by third parties in which a user was tagged was restricted to a secondary “Tagged” tab on the user’s profile. Users can now move those tagged photos and videos onto their primary feed grid alongside their own uploads without needing to re-upload the original media file.
Access to the feature is integrated into three distinct entry points within the application: directly through the Direct Message (DM) notification generated when a user is tagged, via the options menu on the post itself, or through the user’s existing Tagged tab. The integration functions as a non-destructive cross-reference, meaning displaying a tagged item on a primary grid does not duplicate or modify the original post, nor does it affect the original author’s content.
The grid update arrives alongside several recent adjustments to Instagram’s content creation and editing infrastructure. Among these is “First Draft,” a video editing utility that automatically identifies highlighted frames within selected footage, trims unnecessary segments, and removes conversational pauses to compile an initial video sequence. Additionally, Meta recently introduced a “Replace Audio” feature, allowing users to swap background music or audio tracks on existing posts post-publication without losing historical post analytics or needing to delete and re-upload the content.
For commercial users and digital creators, the capability expands options for promotional campaigns and creator partnerships. While Instagram introduced a formal “Collabs” tool in October 2021—allowing co-authors to jointly publish a single post or Reel to both of their profile grids simultaneously—the new tagged-grid functionality allows creators and brands participating in joint marketing campaigns to highlight co-branded content retroactively without requiring initial co-authorship approval prior to posting.
The rollout represents the latest in a series of structural modifications Meta has made to Instagram’s profile architecture, which originated with a rigid, chronologically ordered grid layout. In May 2013, Instagram first introduced tagged content organization through its “Photos of You” tab. In June 2022, Meta expanded grid control by allowing accounts to pin up to three posts or Reels to the top of their profiles regardless of publication date. That initiative was followed in June by the deployment of grid-reordering tools, which gave users direct controls to adjust the spatial layout of published items on their main profile.
Users retain the ability to remove tagged items from their main grid at any time without removing the tag itself or deleting the content from their secondary Tagged tab. The technical updates follow an August expansion that increased Instagram’s Carousel post limit, allowing users to attach up to 20 photos or videos within a single post, up from the long-standing limit of 10.
