DJI Unveils Mic Mini 2S With 32-Bit Float Onboard Recording

DJI has expanded its audio lineup with the release of the Mic Mini 2S, integrating 32-bit float internal recording to provide video creators with an unclipped backup audio track. The new hardware addresses a key limitation of previous compact models by embedding dedicated storage directly into each transmitter unit.

The addition of 32-bit float audio technology gives creators a dynamic range so vast that manual gain adjustments become unnecessary, preventing audio distortion during sudden volume spikes. This floating-point recording architecture ensures that clipped or overly quiet signals can be fully recovered during post-production without introducing digital noise floor penalties.

To support internal recording, each Mic Mini 2S transmitter weighs 12 grams—up slightly from the 11-gram Mic Mini 2—and contains 14.5GB of built-in memory. The internal storage holds approximately 21 hours of 32-bit float audio or up to 28 hours of standard 24-bit sound. The transmitters retain the physical design of their predecessors, featuring a clear plastic housing, magnetic mounting clips, swappable front covers, and clip-on wind muffs.

For multi-person setups, a single Mic Mini 2S receiver can connect to up to four transmitters simultaneously. The system offers backward compatibility with older models, including the Mic 2, Mic 3, Mic Mini, and Mic Mini 2. According to DJI, “This offers a cost-effective way for creators to upgrade and expand their existing equipment as they move into multi-person content.” Transmitters also feature OsmoAudio Direct Connection for native wireless pairing to select company devices, including the Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo Pocket 4, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano, and Osmo Action 6, alongside standard 3.5mm camera cable and smartphone adapter connectivity options.

Audio processing capabilities include three tone presets—Regular, Bright, and Rich—along with Loudness Balance normalization and Clipping Control. The system incorporates two AI noise cancellation settings: a Basic level designed to reduce indoor fan, air conditioning, and room reverb, and a Strong level intended for aggressive outdoor ambient noise.

The wireless system operates at a range of up to 400 meters (437 yards) and is packaged with a 1,950mAh charging case. The case recharges two transmitters and a receiver approximately 3.2 times in roughly two hours, providing up to 42 hours of overall operating time.

The Mic Mini 2S has launched in European markets priced at £169 or 189 EUR for the full package—which includes two transmitters, one receiver, charging case, wind muffs, camera cable, and smartphone adapter—and £79 or 99 EUR for a single-transmitter mobile setup. However, the device remains absent from the U.S. market, where active Federal Communications Commission enforcement actions and regulatory oversight targeting DJI hardware prevent new device approvals.
