Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus Enter Race for AIK Teenager

STOCKHOLM — Kevin Filling’s rise through Swedish football has put AIK’s teenage striker at the center of a high-stakes European recruitment battle. The 17-year-old Sweden youth international has represented his country from the under-15s through the under-19s, while former teammate and current Go Ahead Eagles forward Erik Flataker has described him as “fantastic.”

Filling began playing at local club IK Franke before joining Västerås SK’s academy. The central Swedish club was also where veteran Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf first developed. AIK talent scouts took notice of Filling’s rapid physical and technical growth and recruited him at age 14 ahead of the 2023 season.

His development included a brief loan spell at lower-tier Enköpings SK, where he gained experience against senior opposition. Filling then made his highly anticipated first-team start for AIK on June 29, 2025, scoring in a decisive 3-0 victory over IFK Göteborg. The 6-foot-1 striker has established himself in the senior squad this season, contributing seven goals and assists across all competitions.

Arsenal has made the most visible push for the forward, with the London club’s scouting department sending representatives to Stockholm on multiple occasions to prepare detailed performance reports. Under sporting director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal has pursued highly rated teenage prospects from across Europe, placing them in its youth ranks with a defined route toward first-team football. Evan Mooney, Jaden Dixon, Elijah Upson, and Axel Donczew are among the promising youth players whose signatures the club has recently secured.

AIK, the 12-time Swedish champions, is under no immediate pressure to sell. Reports indicate that the Stockholm-based club would consider a transfer package worth between £17 million and £21 million, approximately $22 million to $27 million. A potential agreement is expected to contain structured performance add-ons, a significant sell-on clause, and a provision allowing Filling to remain at AIK on a temporary loan to continue developing in domestic football.

The club has previously developed elite forward talent, including Alexander Isak, who moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for a then-Allsvenskan record fee before eventually starring for Newcastle United. AIK more recently transferred teenage forward Jonah Kusi-Asare to Bayern Munich. Arsenal is also using its record of giving academy players senior debuts in domestic cup competitions as a central argument in trying to convince Filling’s camp of his long-term prospects in North London.

Chelsea and Liverpool remain formidable competition. Chelsea has consistently targeted global under-18 talent under its current ownership group, while Liverpool has sought to future-proof its attacking options under its restructured sporting hierarchy. Juventus is monitoring Filling as a possible addition to its Next Gen project, a reserve-team system in Serie C that has transitioned several international prospects into the Allianz Stadium first team.

The recruitment interest reflects the broader push by elite clubs to identify elite academy products in Sweden before they command premium prices on the open market. Filling’s physical stature and clinical finishing have also fueled speculation about an impending call-up to the senior Sweden national team under manager Graham Potter, as the country prepares to rebuild its squad ahead of future tournament qualification cycles.
