Arch Manning’s 0 Rushing Yards Sink Texas Against Florida
Zero rushing yards and consecutive defeats push the Longhorns toward the edge of the top 25 and out of playoff contention.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning carried the ball 10 times against Florida on Saturday. He gained zero yards. That single statistic, buried in a 173-yard passing performance with one touchdown, has become the focal point of a collapsing season for the Longhorns and triggered blunt criticism from national analysts questioning whether his pedigree matches his production.
The 4-2 Longhorns dropped their second game of 2026 after falling to the Gators in Gainesville. Manning’s inability to extend plays on the ground neutralized Steve Sarkisian’s offensive scheme entirely. Florida’s defensive game plan forced him into short, non-threatening throws while completely erasing the run-pass option threat that defined Texas’ early-season success.
CBS Sports analyst Damien Harris, a former Alabama running back, stripped away the family legacy during the network’s postgame coverage. “I’m just gonna call him Arch, because if you take away the last name you have a below average quarterback,” Harris said on set. “Arch Manning isn’t playing like a Manning.”
The nephew of Super Bowl-winning passers Peyton and Eli Manning, and grandson of Pro Football Hall of Famer Archie Manning, had briefly silenced detractors two weeks earlier. He engineered a 24-23 comeback win over then-No. 1 Ohio State. The reprieve lasted exactly one week.
Last Saturday, Manning threw two interceptions against Oklahoma, including one that directly set up the Sooners’ walk-off field goal. Texas lost its No. 1 ranking to a previously unranked opponent. Now, consecutive losses threaten to push the program out of the top 25 rankings when the new poll is unveiled Sunday.
The damage extends beyond weekly polls. A 4-2 record severely complicates the path to the SEC championship game in December. More critically, it jeopardizes Texas’ chances of securing a berth in the College Football Playoffs, a standard the university explicitly targeted when it joined the conference.
Sarkisian faces mounting pressure alongside his starting quarterback. The head coach built his offensive system around dual-threat mobility at the position, a design that failed completely against Florida’s front seven. Manning averaged negative yardage per carry, routinely tackled behind or at the line of scrimmage before any rushing attempt could develop.
Texas returns to practice this week preparing for the remainder of its SEC schedule with its playoff margin effectively eliminated. The Longhorns must win out to maintain any realistic postseason leverage.
