Apple and Quest Diagnostics Team Up for a $119 Blood Test That Powers a New Longevity Score

Apple is pushing its health ambitions into clinical laboratory testing through a partnership with Quest Diagnostics, letting users order a 50-biomarker blood panel for $119 without a doctor’s visit. The test results will feed directly into a new “Longevity” tab inside the Apple Health app, combining lab data with continuous metrics captured by the iPhone and Apple Watch to analyze long-term health, cardiovascular status, movement, and sleep. The expansion was introduced alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, shifting the platform’s focus from reactive activity tracking to personalized diagnostic analysis and biological monitoring.

The redesigned application also computes a “Health Age” metric, integrating blood biomarkers with sensor measurements such as cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2 max), physical movement patterns, and sleep quality to determine a user’s biological health standing relative to their chronological age. Quest Diagnostics, headquartered in Secaucus, New Jersey, operates thousands of clinical patient service centers across the United States, making the lab testing component broadly accessible.

The updated app incorporates Apple Intelligence, the machine learning tools first introduced across Apple’s operating systems, to power a new “Insights” tab. This tab consolidates daily health data and provides targeted recommendations based on an individual’s ongoing trends—for example, analyzing cardio fitness metrics and suggesting high-intensity interval training during a morning run to improve cardiovascular capacity. Apple has also added a daily “readiness” score that processes recent physical activity, sleep consistency, and body signals to estimate a user’s capacity for daily exertion, bringing native recovery tracking in direct competition with dedicated fitness platforms like Oura, Garmin, and Whoop.

For physical recovery and mobility, the software adds specialized movement assessments aimed at older adults or individuals recovering from injuries. During an assessment, on-screen trainers demonstrate physical movements to guide users through functional mobility evaluations directly on the device. The $119 50-biomarker panel, backed by Quest Diagnostics, provides consumers with direct access to laboratory testing without requiring a conventional physician referral, transferring test results into the user’s encrypted Health app profile.

The integration of Quest Diagnostics marks a significant step in the evolution of Apple’s health strategy, which began in 2014 with the launch of the Health app and HealthKit framework alongside iOS 8. Over the past decade, Apple has progressively expanded health capabilities: in 2014, it established a centralized repository for user health data; in 2018, it introduced the electrocardiogram (ECG) app on the Apple Watch Series 4, securing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) De Novo clearance; in 2020, it added a pulse oximeter for blood oxygen monitoring on the Apple Watch Series 6; in 2022, it launched temperature sensors on the Apple Watch Series 8 for retrospective ovulation estimation alongside the rugged Apple Watch Ultra line; and in 2024, it introduced FDA-cleared features including AFib History tracking and sleep apnea detection metrics.

Apple stated that the redesigned Health app will launch later this year, initially rolling out in U.S. English alongside the release of the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
