Spurs Teammates Rode the Coasters — Wembanyama Didn’t

Spurs teammates ride Six Flags while Wembanyama stays on the ground before Thunder opener

San Antonio Spurs players spent a Sunday afternoon at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, but the park’s most towering athlete stayed on the ground.

Victor Wembanyama, Julian Champagnie, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and Tobias Harris attended the theme park’s annual Fright Fest celebration, according to a Spurs post shared Sunday. The outing came just two days before the team’s regular-season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 7-foot-4 star walked through the crowd in a magenta hoodie, trailed by teammates, prompting screams and shouts of “It’s Wemby” from onlookers, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Fright Fest turns the park into a Halloween attraction with haunted houses, scare zones, costumed characters and thrill rides, the park said.

While his teammates enjoyed the rides, Wembanyama kept his distance from the roller coasters. “I didn’t do any rides,” he said at Monday’s shootaround, according to the Express-News. “I can’t do it safely.”

Asked whether his NBA contract barred him from a coaster, Wembanyama said no. “I’d rather not do it at all,” he joked, the paper reported.
