Target Bets on Supersized Stores With 8-Location Fall Blitz Across Six States
Seven larger-format stores will open ahead of the holiday season as Target expands in Texas and five other states

Seven of Target’s eight new stores will exceed the company’s average 125,000-square-foot footprint when the locations open in an October and November wave ahead of the holiday season.
Three of the stores form a Texas suburbs cluster in Fort Worth, Katy and Liberty Hill. The remaining additions will extend the retailer’s presence through Bridgehampton, New York; Norfolk, Virginia; Tupelo, Mississippi; Lima, Ohio; and Cookeville, Tennessee.
At more than 125,000 square feet, the larger locations are designed as supersized brick-and-mortar storefronts with floor layouts that support merchandising and local supply hubs for drive-up and same-day delivery fulfillment. Target Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo said the stores give teams the space and technology to bring the company’s merchandising strengths to shoppers.
A $5 billion capital investment plan for 2026 covers the eight openings, more than 130 store remodels and additional spending on employee pay and training. Twenty-four stores have already opened this year, bringing the 2026 total to 32. The plan puts Target on a path toward more than 300 stores by 2035, even as regional department stores and pharmacies reduce their U.S. footprints.

Most of the new locations are scheduled to open on Oct. 11, including the stores in Bridgehampton, Cookeville, Fort Worth, Katy, Liberty Hill, Norfolk and Tupelo. The Lima, Ohio, store is scheduled for Nov. 8. The staggered openings place the stores and their payrolls in position for the holiday shopping window.
More than 2,000 jobs are expected across the eight locations. Starting wages range from $15 to $24 an hour, with benefits and tuition-free education assistance.
