Hunter Biden Turns His Scandal Into a Meme Coin to Troll Trump Losers

The proposed token turns a notorious personal archive into a speculative challenge to Trump's crypto ecosystem

The laptop that became a symbol of Hunter Biden’s public humiliation is now being transformed into a speculative asset on a digital ledger. His proposed $LAPTOP meme coin turns the archive of his addiction, a national political scandal and an October 2020 election surprise into a financial product designed to compete with Donald Trump’s online crypto ecosystem.

Days after standing in a California federal court and pleading guilty on September 5, 2024, to nine federal tax charges, Biden announced his next business venture. He avoided a highly publicized trial but faced up to 17 years in prison along with millions of dollars in penalties and fines. The Hunter Biden tax evasion guilty plea came just four days before he teased the coin on X, while 30% of its one billion tokens are reportedly reserved for Biden and the founders, locked for six months and fully vesting over two years. The timing places a new wealth-generation project beside severe legal and financial exposure without establishing that one caused the other.

The coin has no real-world utility.

Like the dog-themed tokens that preceded them, meme coins carry no underlying utility or protocol-based value. Their prices depend largely on social media hype, viral trends and speculative sentiment, allowing them to crash as quickly as they surge. The phrase Hunter Biden crypto coin $LAPTOP captures the project’s central premise: a personal archive is being repackaged as a market ticker.

“Fiat is a sham, the banking class is corrupt, decentralized digital currency and the blockchain are the inevitable future, and the incumbents will fight it to the death,” Biden declared in a June post. He had introduced the sentiment while denouncing political arguments over himself, his laptop, vaccines, transgender athletes and pronouns. The claim remains suspended over the token’s design as the project moves from personal history into financial engineering.

Bitcoin and binary code

Celebrity meme coin volatility risk had already drawn heightened attention in mid-2024, when the SEC stepped up warning notices involving celebrity-backed tokens associated with figures such as Caitlyn Jenner and Iggy Azalea. Many lost more than 90% of their value within weeks of launching on networks including Solana and Base.

The media landscape was already vulnerable to political spectacle when the Delaware repair shop laptop emerged as an October surprise during the 2020 presidential election. Shared through a video on X, clips of reports about the computer now serve as the announcement’s marketing material. $LAPTOP is scheduled to launch Wednesday on Base, the ledger operated under Coinbase Global. The phrase Meme coin Base ledger Coinbase describes the contradiction at the center of the launch: anti-establishment rhetoric delivered through a platform tied to a publicly traded U.S. financial company.

Thirty percent of the supply will remain with Biden and the founders. Another 20% will be distributed in two batches to holders who lost money on Trump’s $TRUMP meme coin and to subscribers of Biden’s Substack. That allocation makes the Trump meme coin compensation a built-in part of the product’s political design.

In July, Biden described the laptop on Substack as “a record of every way a body can fail its owner,” after writing that it contained “twenty years of my life, or a version of it.” He recalled messages sent at hours that did not belong to anyone sober and photographs he would never have taken in daylight.

The financial architecture behind this self-reckoning consists of one billion tokens. Of the remaining supply, 20% is designated for liquidity and operations, while 30% is assigned to a deflationary “event burn” tied to 30 real-world triggers over a specified period.

Those triggers include a Democrat winning the 2028 presidential election, Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high and $LAPTOP’s valuation surpassing $TRUMP. The planned event burn turns political victories, market milestones and rivalry between the two tokens into conditions for changing the supply.

“None of it is a single dramatic moment,” Biden wrote of the laptop. “It is accumulation, the slow daily work of an addict doing the thing that is killing him because the alternative feels like dying faster. All of that was on it.”

“I am not denying any of it,” he added. “That is not a small thing to say. I have spent years in rooms where men and women with far less scrutiny than I have faced tore themselves apart trying to account for what they did in the middle of their disease.”

Elon Musk shows off DOGE shirt

Elon Musk helped make meme coins a political and cultural phenomenon through DOGE before joining President Donald Trump’s White House. Biden’s proposed token uses the same speculative ecosystem to turn the laptop’s darkest hours into a vehicle aimed at Trump’s token holders and political milestones.

Buyers face the same market structure that prompted the SEC’s celebrity-token warnings: concentrated insider holdings, rapid speculative trading and the possibility that celebrity-backed assets can lose more than 90% of their value within weeks. Coinbase Global shares were recently listed at 184.64, down 8.06, or 4.18%; Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF shares were 60.90, down 0.83, or 1.34%; Meta Platforms was 616.77, up 6.09, or 1.00%; and Trump Media & Technology Group was 9.02, down 0.50, or 5.25%.
