Premier League Reveals 2026/27 Christmas TV Schedule

LONDON — The Premier League has finalized its domestic television schedule for the high-profile Christmas and New Year period of the 2026/27 season. The selections cover Matchdays 17 through 20 from December 26 to January 7, while the remaining televised fixtures for early and mid-December are scheduled to be announced during the week of October 19.

The festive window falls within the Premier League’s current domestic broadcasting rights agreement, which runs from the 2025/26 season through the 2028/29 season and is valued at a record £6.7 billion ($8.4 billion). Sky Sports and TNT Sports, operated by Warner Bros. Discovery, share live broadcasting rights in the United Kingdom. Sky Sports remains the primary rights holder, while TNT Sports has a smaller package that includes the opening Boxing Day match.

BBC Sport retains the terrestrial highlights package through its long-running “Match of the Day” broadcasts. Audio and radio rights remain split between BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT. Amazon Prime Video is absent from the current arrangement after previously acquiring rights to entire rounds of mid-December and Boxing Day fixtures in the prior rights cycle.

The televised action begins on Boxing Day, December 26, when Aston Villa host Leeds United at 12:30 GMT on TNT Sports. Leeds United, Coventry City, Hull City, and Sunderland are historic clubs that have returned to the top flight for the 2026/27 campaign.

The holiday period requires teams to play four matches in less than two weeks, with minimal recovery time. Reigning champions Arsenal have had three matches selected for live national broadcast during the stretch, while primary title rivals Manchester City will feature in four televised games.

Separate digital or cable subscriptions are required to access both UK broadcasters. Sky Sports offers contract-free access through its streaming subsidiary, Now TV, priced at £14.99 for a daily pass, £28 per month with a 12-month commitment, or £34.99 per month on a flexible, contract-free basis. The packages include all 12 live Sky Sports channels and the Sky Sports+ streaming platform.

TNT Sports is available for £29.99 per month through the HBO Max app, which also bundles Eurosport and other entertainment content across smart televisions, mobile devices, and gaming consoles. SkyGO serves Sky Sports subscribers, while HBO Max is the digital hub for TNT Sports; both broadcasters offer dedicated mobile and streaming applications.

Several Boxing Day and January 2 fixtures remain untelevised domestically. The traditional “3pm blackout,” codified under UEFA Article 48 since the 1960s, prevents professional football matches from being broadcast live on UK television between 2:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Saturdays. Former Burnley FC chairman Bob Lord originally championed the rule, which is designed to protect stadium attendances and ticket revenue for lower-league clubs across the English Football League (EFL) pyramid.

As a result, Ipswich vs. Brentford and Tottenham vs. Bournemouth on December 26 will not be shown live on UK television. The consolidation of live matches under Sky and TNT Sports has streamlined domestic viewing options, although fans must navigate different subscription models and streaming applications.

The announcement also allows clubs, local authorities, and travelling supporters to begin logistical planning for transport and security during the busy holiday period.
