Mbappé Leads Real Madrid Past Rayo Vallecano 4-1

MADRID — Fede Valverde captained a reshaped Real Madrid lineup against city rivals Rayo Vallecano, with Yan Diomande making his first career start for the club alongside Álvaro Carreras and Denzel Dumfries.

The hosts took control during a dominant first half, although Rayo responded aggressively after the interval. Madrid entered halftime with a 3-0 advantage before facing sustained pressure from the visitors.

Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Moments later, he combined with Carreras, who completed the sequence to score Madrid’s second goal. Vinícius Júnior then found Jude Bellingham on the edge of the penalty box, and the English midfielder struck before the break.

Rayo Vallecano changed its approach after halftime and immediately applied pressure in Madrid’s defensive half. An effort from distance struck the goalpost, and forward Sergio Camello later beat goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

The visitors kept pushing for a second goal, forcing Courtois to make a parrying save on another long-range attempt. Madrid’s response during the final quarter-hour included a Dumfries header that drew a key save from the Rayo goalkeeper, while Bellingham also had a chance to score for a second time.

Arda Güler supplied Mbappé with a pass in the closing minutes, and Mbappé converted for his second goal of the match. The finish restored Madrid’s three-goal margin and completed the 4-1 victory.

The result gave Real Madrid four wins from its opening five matches of the Spanish La Liga season. The club now has 12 points from its first five league fixtures of the campaign.
