Julian Hall Draws Leeds, Leipzig and Europe’s Elite Into a Transatlantic Transfer Battle

Julian Hall’s emergence has placed the New York Red Bulls at the center of an intense recruiting battle involving clubs from the English Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s La Liga and France’s Ligue 1. The 18-year-old forward is among North America’s most sought-after young talents, even after the Red Bulls secured him to a new long-term contract.

Hall joined the Red Bulls’ academy system at a young age, and his physical and technical progression accelerated his move into professional soccer. At 15, he made his senior debut as the youngest debutant in the history of the New York franchise. His breakthrough campaign in 2026 included 12 goals in 25 appearances.

Leeds United has been tracking Hall through a recruitment model shaped by 49ers Enterprises and Director of Football Adam Underwood. After returning to the Premier League, the Yorkshire club avoided high-priced, short-term solutions, including during a summer transfer window in which it reshaped its attacking department following the departures of Joel Piroe and Joe Gelhardt.

Hall’s most memorable performance arrived in a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew. He scored a clinical hat-trick at 18 years and 50 days old, adding consistent professional production to the early promise that had made him a highly rated prospect.

Leeds’ transfer committee wanted to strengthen manager Daniel Farke’s attacking options without disturbing the squad’s internal hierarchy. Instead of bringing in an established, high-profile striker demanding immediate starting minutes, the club prioritized a high-ceiling development prospect who could offer competitive depth and cover behind first-choice striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and backup Lukas Nmecha.

The teenager also became the second-youngest goalscorer in MLS history, behind only Freddy Adu, who debuted for D.C. United in 2004. Leeds’ scouting department has evaluated Hall’s technical capability, his physical transition to European leagues, his personality and his adaptability.

The corporate connection between Leeds and the Red Bull network has added another layer to the pursuit. In May 2024, Red Bull GmbH acquired a minority stake in Leeds United and became the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor, prompting speculation about movement between New York and West Yorkshire. Club sources, however, say Leeds had already compiled extensive files on Hall before the sponsorship and investment agreement was completed. The interest has been described as independent sporting evaluation rather than commercial convenience.


RB Leipzig, the Red Bull soccer portfolio’s flagship club, is also a significant admirer and monitored Hall closely during the summer window. The established developmental pathway between New York and Leipzig has previously been used by players including midfielder Tyler Adams, giving Hall a direct internal route to European football.

Leeds and Leipzig face competition from several Premier League clubs. Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, widely recognized for its world-class global scouting network, have placed Hall on their recruitment lists. Manchester United has assessed his potential, while the City Football Group, anchored by Manchester City, and BlueCo, the parent company of Chelsea, have conducted detailed scouting work on the forward.

Interest extends across the continent. Borussia Dortmund, which has a celebrated record of developing North American talent including Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna, is monitoring Hall’s trajectory. Atletico Madrid and Monaco are also registered as interested parties, increasing the teenager’s prospective market valuation.

The New York Red Bulls remain in a strong negotiating position because Hall’s recently signed four-year contract extension was designed to protect his developmental runway in MLS while securing his market value for the franchise. The club faces no immediate financial pressure to sell and can wait for an offer that matches its valuation and provides Hall with an optimal career pathway.

For Leeds United and the other suitors, Julian Hall is a long-term pursuit. January and the following summer transfer window are shaping up as the likely battlegrounds for his signature.
