Japan-Only Corvette C8 ‘V8 Tourer’ Skips the New 6.7L V8

The $136,000 convertible features unique trim and a 15-unit production cap, but misses the larger engine arriving in the U.S.

Chevrolet Japan is selling a 15-unit run of the C8 Stingray convertible called the V8 Tourer for 21,500,000 JPY — roughly $136,000. Buyers get exclusive paint and interior upgrades. They do not get the new engine.

While U.S. showrooms are preparing for 2027 model-year Corvettes equipped with a 6.7-liter small-block V8, this limited edition retains the outgoing 6.2-liter V8. According to Chevrolet Japan’s website, that older powerplant produces 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The deficit is about 40 horses compared to American-spec cars rolling off the Bowling Green, Kentucky, assembly line right now.

General Motors has historically staggered major powertrain rollouts in Asia-Pacific markets, often trailing North American introductions by a full model year or more due to localized emissions certification requirements. The V8 Tourer reflects that delay rather than an intentional mechanical downgrade, though it leaves Japanese buyers paying a premium for last generation’s hardware.

The $136,000 asking price represents a roughly $12,000 markup over a standard C8 Corvette convertible in the Japanese market. For that premium, Chevrolet Japan applies Red Mist Metallic tintcoat paint and Sterling Silver racing stripes running across the hood, roof, and rear spoiler. Five-spoke forged aluminum wheels finished in nickel sit over black painted brake calipers. A red engine cover replaces the standard unit.

Inside, GT2 bucket seats are trimmed in tan leather contrasted with black leather. Special badges mark the cabin as one of the 15 built.

The C8 platform has generated enough demand in Japan to justify these localized runs since the mid-engine architecture debuted for the 2020 model year. Right-hand-drive conversions handled through official channels have kept order volumes steady despite tariffs and shipping costs that inflate sticker prices well beyond U.S. MSRPs.

The 6.7-liter V8 is expected to reach Pacific markets eventually. No timeline for that transition was provided by Chevrolet Japan.
