Early talks underway as 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper seeks regular football after impressive Bristol City loan
Middlesbrough have entered preliminary negotiations with Manchester United regarding a potential deal for goalkeeper Radek Vitek, as the Championship side seeks to strengthen their options ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old Czech stopper established himself as a high-performing talent during a successful loan spell at Bristol City in the 2025/26 season, registering 12 clean sheets in 41 appearances. While Scottish giants Celtic previously monitored Vitek, Middlesbrough have now stepped forward in pursuit of his signature, according to initial reporting from Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas.
The Teesside club views Vitek as a prime candidate to fortify their squad, particularly as a potential replacement for Solomon Brynn. Given Vitek’s extensive minutes in the second tier last season, he presents a low-risk option capable of adapting immediately to Middlesbrough’s defensive system without an extended transition phase.
Vitek, who featured twice for Manchester United during pre-season including a 5-0 victory over Rosenborg, addressed his prospective future while back at Carrington, clarifying his readiness for either a loan departure or a permanent exit.
“I’m ready for both, to be fair. It depends on what the club wants and also on the options,” Vitek noted. “There has been a few interests on the table. We’re hoping to choose the best one and hopefully it will happen soon.”
Pathways to first-team minutes at Old Trafford remain constrained for Vitek, who currently sits behind Senne Lammens and Altay Bayindir in the club’s goalkeeping hierarchy. Consequently, Manchester United regard the player as a marketable asset during a transfer period focused on balancing expenditures.
Having invested £50 million in Andrey Santos and £35 million in Youri Tielemans, United are seeking further additions across midfield, full-back, and forward positions, making player sales a necessary tool to generate capital and comply with financial regulations.
