Ethereum Foundation Appoints Pascal Caversaccio to Board to Drive Protocol Security and Privacy

The Ethereum Foundation has officially appointed smart contract security researcher Pascal Caversaccio to its executive board, bringing the governing body to four members at a critical juncture in the network’s development roadmap. The structural expansion comes as the non-profit organization prioritizes core protocol security and user privacy infrastructure ahead of upcoming network upgrades.
Caversaccio, a recognized security engineer with extensive experience in smart contract auditing and vulnerability research, joins an executive team tasked with guiding resource distribution, research initiatives, and institutional strategy for the world’s largest smart contract platform. His inclusion reflects a shift toward hardening the foundational layer against complex cryptographic and smart contract risks.
The addition to the board signals an intentional pivot by the Ethereum Foundation to address lingering privacy and security concerns that have complicated institutional adoption. While Ethereum’s public, immutable ledger guarantees transparency, it also exposes transaction metadata and user activity to tracking—a challenge protocol researchers are increasingly tackling through zero-knowledge proofs and privacy-preserving primitives.
Institutional and retail participation in decentralized finance (DeFi) has frequently stumbled over security exploits, with smart contract vulnerabilities accounting for billions of dollars in losses across the broader Web3 ecosystem in recent years.
