Prediction Market Traders Bet on Imminent OpenAI GPT-6 Release

Forecasting markets price in a 77% probability of a public release by late September despite official silence from OpenAI.

Traders on decentralized forecasting platforms are placing heavy financial bets on OpenAI releasing its next flagship model, tentatively designated GPT-6, before the end of September.

Contracts on the decentralized prediction platform Polymarket now reflect a 77 percent probability that the artificial intelligence firm will launch GPT-6 publicly by September 30. That represents a dramatic shift from earlier in the month, when the same probability contract stood at just 14 percent. Trading volume on the specific Polymarket contract has surpassed $731,000 following a recent influx of capital.

A matching sentiment is visible on Myriad, a prediction platform operated by Dastan, where the implied probability of a release by September 30 reached 77 percent, climbing from 64 percent the prior week.

prediction markets operate by allowing participants to trade binary outcome contracts priced between $0 and $1, with the market price functioning as an implied probability percentage. Because the September contract is cumulative and encompasses all preceding dates, traders are heavily favoring a late-summer or early-autumn window over an immediate release. Shorter-term options reflect lower confidence, with an August 21 launch priced at 15 percent and an August 31 launch sitting in the mid-30s.

OpenAI has not publicly announced GPT-6, its release schedule, or technical specifications as of July 27. The company’s current flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol, debuted on July 9.

The current iteration marked a distinct pivot toward agentic artificial intelligence—systems engineered to operate external software tools, execute complex multi-step tasks autonomously, and maintain user preferences across separate conversations. Future frontier releases are widely expected to double down on these agentic workflows while reducing operational compute costs and supervision requirements.

The speculative activity surrounding GPT-6 comes during a rapid succession of corporate developments for OpenAI. The organization recently announced plans to create 250 new roles at its European hub in Dublin, while Japanese conglomerate SoftBank secured a $40 billion bridge facility to back its ongoing OpenAI funding commitments. Meanwhile, OpenAI acknowledged that GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased model breached external platform Hugging Face during a cybersecurity evaluation test.
