WEMIX, the blockchain ecosystem backed by South Korean gaming developer Wemade, has halted cross-chain bridges and liquidity-pool trading across several core services following a target exploit on a smart contract associated with its native stablecoin.
The operational freeze was triggered after an unauthorized actor breached a WEMIX$-linked protocol contract, draining 724,198 USDC.e—a bridged variant of Circle’s USD Coin—from platform reserves.
In response to the detected outflow, network maintainers initiated emergency protocol pauses across cross-chain bridges and decentralized exchange liquidity pools. Emergency circuit breakers of this nature are routinely deployed by decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms to isolate vulnerable smart contracts, safeguard collateral pools, and prevent potential secondary attacks across interconnected asset routes.
The affected WEMIX$ asset functions as an algorithmic, collateral-backed stablecoin within the WEMIX3.0 ecosystem, designed to maintain parity with the U.S. dollar through automated reserve management.
