Samsung Unveils Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with Enhanced Diving Capabilities and Slimmer Titanium Design
The new flagship wearable features an IP69K rating and a significantly larger 800mAh battery.
Samsung has officially expanded its high-end wearable lineup with the debut of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Announced during the company’s latest Unpacked event, the device is positioned as a rugged powerhouse designed for high-performance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, featuring significant hardware upgrades over its predecessor while maintaining a more compact profile.
The standout feature of the new model is its reinforced durability. Constructed with a shock-resistant titanium casing, the Ultra 2 carries an IP69K rating, the highest standard for protection against dust and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. For aquatic activities, the watch is rated at 10 ATM, allowing for submersion up to 100 meters. Samsung has also secured EN13319 certification, an international standard for diving equipment, confirming the device’s reliability for snorkeling and diving applications.
Despite being 12 percent slimmer than the first-generation model—a feat achieved through internal re-engineering—Samsung has managed to increase the battery capacity. The Ultra 2 houses an 800mAh battery, a substantial jump from the 590mAh found in the previous iteration. According to the manufacturer, this allows the watch to last up to 60 hours even with the Always On Display (AOD) enabled.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform. This chipset is designed to facilitate faster performance and more sophisticated AI features within the Wear OS ecosystem. The hardware suite is rounded out by 2GB of memory and 64GB of internal storage, providing ample space for offline maps and third-party applications.
To complement the hardware, Samsung confirmed that a dedicated Ultra 2 Diving app will be released later this year. The software will provide divers with real-time data, including depth, water temperature, and safety limits such as ascent and descent speeds. This move aligns Samsung more closely with specialized dive computer manufacturers and competitors in the premium rugged smartwatch segment.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 features a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display housed in a 47mm chassis. It is currently available for pre-order in the United States in two finishes: Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray. Priced at $700, the device is scheduled for general retail availability starting August 7.
