Egypt’s Interior Ministry Cracks Down on Traffic Violations, Drug Driving
Nationwide enforcement efforts net tens of thousands of offenses, dozens of impaired drivers.
The Ministry of Interior recorded 99,530 diverse traffic violations across all roads and axes nationwide. This extensive enforcement occurred over a 24-hour period. Key offenses included driving without licenses, exceeding speed limits, and random parking. Officers also cited drivers for using mobile phones while driving and violating licensing conditions. Authorities tested 1,252 drivers during these operations. Fifty-one drivers tested positive for drug use.
On the Regional Ring Road, the Ministry continued its traffic and disciplinary campaigns in designated work areas. Police documented 670 diverse traffic violations within 24 hours. These offenses included passenger overloading, issues with licensing conditions, and safety and durability violations. Officers also tested 118 drivers on this road. Six drivers tested positive for drug use. Furthermore, authorities apprehended seven individuals wanted by law, facing a total of seven judgments.
