Ball Thrown From Stand at Brentford Game: Police Involved After Fan Incident

Police called in after an object was thrown from a balcony onto the pitch during Brentford's game against Liverpool

Brentford have reported to police an incident involving an object thrown from a stand onto the pitch during Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool, the club confirmed on Monday.

The object, described as a ball, was seen in social media clips being launched from a balcony overlooking the Gtech Community Stadium before landing on the playing surface. One clip showed an individual carrying the ball away from the field, with a caption saying “Wrong sport mate.”

“Brentford Football Club is aware of an incident involving an item being kicked from a height towards the field of play during Saturday’s match against Liverpool. Such behaviour is dangerous and potentially very harmful,” the club said.

The matter has been handed to police. Brentford said it is supporting the investigation “to help identify those responsible and take appropriate action, which may result in criminal prosecution.”

The warning came after a match that saw Brentford lose 2-1 at home. Keane Lewis-Potter scored in the 44th minute, but Víctor Muñoz and Alexander Isak found the net in the second half to turn the result against the home side.

Objects thrown from stands are not uncommon in English football, though most are soft items like drinks bottles. This one crossed a line — it left the stand, left a balcony, and arrived on the grass where players run.

Premier League clubs have faced increased scrutiny on fan conduct following separate incidents in recent years, including projectiles that struck players and officials. Stadiums have added safety barriers, CCTV, and stewards trained to spot throws before they happen.

The club noted the matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of “utmost importance.” Police have not yet named anyone or charged anyone, and the identity of the person in the video remains unknown.

Brentford are sixth in the Premier League table with two wins, four draws and one defeat from their opening fixtures. They travel to Hull City on Sunday, October 25.

Liverpool sit fifth, three wins and three draws from seven matches in the 2026/27 season. They face Villarreal on Tuesday, October 20, then host Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on Sunday — the Seagulls third in the table.

Injury concerns for Liverpool include Hugo Ekitike, out with an Achilles tendon rupture from late last season, plus Conor Bradley and Gio Leoni, both rehabilitating separate knee problems.
