Egyptian Police Clarify Hurghada Land Dispute Amid Social Media Fraud Claims
Authorities debunk widespread online allegations, detail legal nature of property issue.

Egyptian security forces have clarified a widely circulated social media post alleging fraud and property seizure in Hurghada, stating that the incident stems from legal financial procedures rather than criminal deception.
The online post, which garnered significant interaction, featured a woman claiming several individuals had defrauded her, seizing her home in exchange for a fictitious land plot and issuing threats of harm.
Upon investigation, authorities identified the woman, a resident of Hurghada’s First Police Department jurisdiction. She confirmed that in 2023, she purchased a plot of land within the Second Police Department jurisdiction from an individual, who was the father of those she accused, prior to his death. Following the purchase, she proceeded to establish a farm on the land.
The woman further stated that on November 29, she was informed by relevant authorities that the land had been withdrawn. This action was taken because the individuals she accused had failed to settle outstanding financial obligations related to the property, leading to the land being put up for public auction in accordance with legal procedures.
Investigations concluded that the incident did not involve fraud or deception, as initially alleged and widely shared online. Instead, the matter was determined to be a result of legal procedures pertaining to the financial and legal status of the purchased land.
Security agencies affirmed that necessary legal actions have been taken regarding the incident. This aligns with their commitment to scrutinizing information circulated on social media platforms and countering inaccurate reports that could cause public confusion or mislead public opinion.
