Kevin Schade contract talks opened by Brentford amid Arsenal interest

Brentford Football Club has initiated contract extension discussions with Germany international forward Kevin Schade, a move designed to reward his development and deter growing interest from Arsenal and other top European clubs, according to a report by TeamTalk. The 24-year-old winger is under contract through the summer of 2028 after making his move from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg permanent in 2023. However, Brentford’s hierarchy is pursuing an updated deal featuring a significant wage increase to secure the attacker’s prime years and protect his market valuation against prospective suitors.

Schade initially arrived at Brentford in January 2023 on a six-month loan agreement from Freiburg, where he had risen through the youth ranks to make 36 senior first-team appearances. Premier League title contenders Arsenal made formal inquiries regarding Schade during the summer transfer window, seeking to bolster depth on the left flank under manager Mikel Arteta. Brentford executives responded firmly, declaring the German forward not for sale.

The deal included a mandatory buyout clause that Brentford exercised in June 2023 for a reported fee of approximately £22 million ($28 million), which at the time set a new club transfer record. In addition to domestic interest from North London, several clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League continue to monitor Schade’s performances in the English top flight.

Since his arrival at the Gtech Community Stadium, Schade has established himself as a focal point in Brentford’s direct attacking system under manager Thomas Frank and first-team coach Keith Andrews. His upward trajectory in England has also elevated his international standing. Schade earned his senior debut for the Germany national team under former manager Hansi Flick in March 2023, appearing in international friendlies against Peru and Belgium before adding further caps during subsequent European Championship qualifying cycles.

Known for his elite acceleration and vertical threat, the forward has accumulated 23 goals in 117 matches for the Bees, highlighted by two Premier League hat-tricks. Brentford’s decision to initiate contract discussions well before Schade enters the final years of his agreement aligns with the club’s established roster-management framework. The data-led organization has consistently moved to extend the terms of key players ahead of transfer windows to retain squad stability and maximize leverage during negotiations with higher-spending European clubs.
