Baby Bath Seats Sold on Amazon Recalled Over Drowning Risk

Federal regulators warn ONTHEWEI bath seats fail stability rules and can tip over during infant baths

Federal safety officials have issued an urgent recall for more than 2,000 infant bath seats sold on Amazon after testing determined the products fail to meet binding federal safety standards and can easily tip over during use.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that approximately 2,140 units of ONTHEWEI-branded baby bath seats pose a serious hazard of injury or drowning. Regulators established that the seats lack the structural stability required under the mandatory standard for infant bath seats, creating an immediate danger if a caregiver turns away even momentarily.

Federal safety regulations strictly govern infant bath seats because water submersion incidents involving infants can occur silently in seconds. While designed to hold babies upright during bathing, non-compliant seats frequently slip or detach from tub surfaces. Safety advocates consistently remind parents that bath seats serve solely as convenience accessories rather than safety devices, and cannot prevent tip-overs if bottom anchor mechanisms fail.

The affected ONTHEWEI units retailed on Amazon during April for between $40 and $50. Sold in blue, gray, pink, and mist green, the products feature detachable restraint arms alongside three suction cups mounted beneath the base. Parents can identify the recalled hardware by examining the label affixed to the back, which displays Model No: MY002 and a manufacturing date marking of Date of manufacturer: 2026/1/10.

While the watchdog agency confirmed that no injuries or fatalities have been documented to date, officials instruct purchasers to stop utilizing the seats immediately.

Rather than shipping the bulky plastic frames back, consumers must complete a specific disposal process to qualify for a full refund. Owners are directed to write the word RECALLED across the front in permanent marker, remove the backrest and restraint arms, and slice through all three suction cups on the underside. Families must then submit photographic proof of the dismantled item directly to ONTHEWEI to process their reimbursement.
