Pinterest Beauty Guides Translate Salon Inspiration Into Actionable Plans
AI tool converts saved Pins into technical terminology, pricing estimates, and maintenance schedules for salon visits

Pinterest has launched Beauty Guides, a new artificial intelligence tool designed to bridge the persistent communication gap between salon clients and stylists. The feature analyzes saved images of hairstyles and nail art, converting visual inspiration into precise technical terminology and logistical planning data that users can reference during appointments.
Unlike generic image search results, this system leverages Pinterest Intelligence to identify specific aesthetic elements and map them to industry-standard vocabulary. A user saving a photo of a gradient hair color might not know the technique is called balayage or root melt, but the guide explicitly provides these terms alongside visual breakdowns. This translation layer addresses a common friction point in beauty services where vague descriptions often lead to mismatched expectations and unsatisfactory results.
The tool extends beyond vocabulary to address practical barriers to booking complex services. Each generated guide includes estimated service duration, price ranges, and long-term maintenance requirements such as trim frequency or toner refresh cycles. By surfacing cost and time commitments upfront, the feature helps consumers budget accurately and avoid sticker shock for high-ticket treatments that frequently exceed $200.
Accessing the tool requires tapping a “Get the Guide” button on eligible Pins within the mobile app. The current rollout covers four primary categories: hairstyle, hair color, nail shape, and nail finish. This focused scope reflects the platform’s strategy of applying generative AI to high-intent verticals where visual discovery directly precedes commercial transactions, rather than deploying broad conversational chatbots.
For professional stylists, the feature serves as an intake aid that streamlines consultations. Clients arriving with standardized technical references reduce the time spent deciphering ambiguous photos, allowing more appointment time for execution. The integration also positions Pinterest closer to the point of sale in the beauty sector, transforming passive inspiration boards into active pre-appointment planning documents.
Beauty Guides are now live for all U.S. users on iOS and Android devices.
