Bitcoin Long-Term Holders Pause Distribution as Dormant Coin Activity Drops to Lowest Level Since 2022
On-chain metrics show long-term crypto investors have slowed coin distribution following recent profit-taking.
Dormant Bitcoin activity has fallen to its lowest level since Q3 2022, signaling that long-term holders have largely paused coin distribution following an extended period of profit-taking.
The slowdown in token transfers from long-inactive addresses suggests that veteran crypto investors are choosing to retain their holdings rather than send assets to trading venues. According to blockchain analytics data, this drop in spending follows heavy profit-taking during prior market rallies, where older coins were mobilized to capitalize on elevated price levels.
In crypto market research, long-term holders are categorized as wallet addresses that keep assets static for more than 155 days. Historically, tokens reaching this holding duration become statistically much less likely to be liquidated. As spent output from these dormant wallets diminishes, the rate of liquid supply entering active order books decreases accordingly.
The current drop mirrors market conditions seen in late 2022, when dormant transfers touched similar historical lows during a period of macro consolidation. Analysts view a deceleration in coin distribution among long-term holders as a key indicator of reduced sell-side pressure across cryptocurrency markets.
