Manchester United Target Fulham Midfielder Sander Berge to Bolster Summer Recruitments

Manchester United are exploring a move for Fulham’s towering midfielder Sander Berge as they look to further fortify their midfield options during the summer transfer window.
Despite already securing deals for Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, United’s recruitment team remains active in the market for a third midfield acquisition. Berge, a 28-year-old Norwegian international, has emerged as a key target. He is currently under contract at Craven Cottage until 2029, giving Fulham a strong negotiating position. Transfermarkt values the midfielder at approximately £21 million, meaning any potential deal would require a substantial financial package to convince the London club to part with him.
Standing at 6ft 5in, the right-footed midfielder offers a unique physical and tactical profile. Capable of operating as a deep-lying playmaker or in a more dynamic box-to-box role, Berge is noted for his technical composure, tidy possession retention, and defensive contribution. His journey in English football includes spells at Sheffield United and Burnley before establishing himself as a regular starter for Fulham, where he made 39 appearances across all competitions last season, registering one assist.
On the international stage, Berge has become a cornerstone of the Norway national team, notably contributing to their competitive runs, including a path to a World Cup quarter-final clash against England. At club level, his Premier League experience makes him an attractive, low-risk option for United, who are keen to inject proven top-flight experience alongside emerging young talents like Kobbie Mainoo and Santos.
United’s search for midfield reinforcement is not limited to Berge. The club is also keeping tabs on Bournemouth’s highly-rated youngster Alex Scott, who has reportedly rejected a contract extension with the Cherries despite his current deal running until 2028. Other names on United’s shortlist include Lille’s teenage prospect Ayyoub Bouaddi, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, and Roma’s Manu Kone, reflecting a broad scouting mission to reshape the team’s core.
